Summertime Dog Saftey:
The arrival of summer can present dangers to your pets. Here are some saftey tips that will decrease the chances of accidents.
-NEVER leave your pet unattended in your car.
-Do not drive with your dog in the back of your truck.
-Lawn chemicals can be very toxic. Keep your pet off of fertilized lawns for 24 hours.
-Heat Stroke is very serious. If you pet experiences heat stroke you need to get them treatment immediately.
-Bite wounds can be an issue as dog parks fill up. Keep a close eye on your dog when they are around other dogs off leash.
-Always supervise your dog near a pool.
-Though all that fur helps protect your pet, your pet can get sunburned, use sunscreen.
-If your dog goes missing, check all local animal shelters, post "missing dog" ads online and hang posters. The best way to ensure your dog is returned is to make sure they have some form of ID, a tag, tattoo or chip.

The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter provides our community with many services. It gives injured, abused, lost, and abandoned animals food, care, shelter, and comfort before finding loving and responsible homes for them. The shelter helps reunite families with lost pets. It also keeps potentially dangerous animals off the streets.
The animal control officers, the staff, and the volunteers at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter work hard to serve and protect both animals and people, making our community a better place for everyone.
