Columbia County Animal Protection Society

Adpotions

Only a few of our pets are featured on our web page. However, we have over one hundred pets at our shelter and invite you to come visit to see our large selection of available pets. We have many adult dogs suitable for families, and many puppies and adolescent dogs needing homes. New puppies arrive daily. We also have a wide selection of cats and kittens. Adopting a pet is not a frivolous task, as a pet is a big responsibility. We are willing to help train you for this task.

There are a few fees that help keep CCAPS functioning. These fees are for use in caring for your animal until you adopt it. All adopted pets have current medical care, all shots are up to date and ready for your love and attention.

An adoption fee of $80 per dog is to be paid to CCAPS by the applicant before the animal can be released. This fee covers the following: All vaccinations due for animals age, Heartworm Testing, Monthly wormer, Spay or neuter of animal, Rabies vaccine, and a small bag of Science Diet pet food. This is a great deal compared to the cost of each of these services separately. Vet appointment for sterilization and transportation for adopted animal can be provided by shelter staff.

An adoption fee of $60 per cat is to be paid to CCAPS by the primary caregiver of the animal. This fee covers the following for adult cats: Test for feline leukemia and FIV, Spay or neuter, Vaccinations that include FVRCP, Rabies, Worming, Flea and ear mite treatments, plus a complete veterinary examination and any necessary medical treatment. For kittens this includes the following: Test for Feline Leukemia, 1st FVRCP, Rabies at time of sterilization, plus any other necessary medical care, and a thorough veterinary examination.

While we never adopt a cat or kitten that we have reason to believe is ill or has been exposed to disease, there are no adequate tests for certain viruses. We adopt our cats out in good faith, but we cannot guarantee their continued health. If you have a friend or relative whom you think would bond well with one of our adoptable cats or kittens, they will need to contact us in person. All of our cats must be spayed or neutered. In most cases of the adult cats, this process has already been completed.
