You may have read that no healthy, adoptable animals have been killed in our County shelters for some time. Please don't believe that your cute, happy, friendly puppy or kitten will find a new home. Once they enter that environment, they are no longer happy, they are afraid, they do not appear adoptable. They get sick. The definition of healthy and adoptable means that the animal is more than 2 months old, is not pregnant or nursing, does not show fear, does not have a sniffle. It most definitely does not include feral cats!
The most important thing anyone can do about this atrocity is to
One unaltered cat and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 cats in just seven years1! If the shelters were not so full, perhaps fewer people would think of them as a sure ticket to death, and no longer choose abandonment over relinquishment.
1The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) estimates that one unaltered female cat and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 cats in just seven years!
