The adoption and what it includes
Well, here's the lowdown. When you choose to adopt one of New Homes 4 Animals (NH4A) animals, each of our dogs, cats, puppies and kittens have already been:
- Spayed or neutered
- Microchipped
- (cats only) Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia)
- (cats only) Tested for FIV (Feline AIDS) for cats six months and older
- Vaccinated/innoculated (FVRCP for cats, DHPP and rabies for dogs). Vaccinating does depend on the animal's age and how long we have had it in rescue. For kittens and puppies additional vaccinations are sometimes provided by us; if not, they are the responsibility of the adopter. We have put together a recommended vaccination protocol for adopters (and others that are interested) on a separate page . We take our protocol from that of recognized veterinarians. As al of our cats are adopted to live their lives indoors, they will need less vaccines than other cats living predominantly outside.
- De-fleaing
- (cats) De-worming (tape and roundworm)
- (dogs) De-worming as needed
These services would ordinarily run at least $250.00 at minimum individually, so you're saving a whole lot of that green stuff that's so important to everyone! Of course many times we must provide additional medical care such as surgery for injuries or congenital problems, x-rays, blood panels, fecal tests, treatment for ear, eye, upper respiratory infections, and viruses as well as dental care for older animals.
Remember though, all veterinary care once you've adopted a new pet into your family, are your responsibility for the life of your pet.
Ensuring good homes for our rescues
To help ensure that we place our animals in loving, responsible, and committed homes, we have a screening process involved in adopting a pet from New Homes 4 Animals. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting one of our rescues, you can either fill out one of our Dog or Cat applications found on our website or you can directly e-mail Newhomes4anmls@yahoo.com to request an adoption application. We try to best match the personality of the dog or cat to an interested adopter, depending upon the adopter's lifestyle and the needs of the animals. Dogs and cats may be seen by appointment or at special adoption events.
After an application is approved, you may come and visit the dog or cats and if you decide to adopt, the dog or cat will be delivered to your home. The adopter will be asked to sign an Adoption Agreement and pay an agreed upon adoption fee.
If we do not have the pet you'd like to adopt, please submit an application and we will put you on the pre-approved adopters list and will keep you informed when we have a dog or cat that meets your needs. We will inform you when your application is processed, and then you can come visit our dogs and cats. If you do not have email, having your application prepared and printed out can also help speed the adoption process!
Return Policy
If for any reason you wish or need to return an animal you've adopted from us, you can do so within 1 week for a full refund of the adoption contribution. After that, be it months or years later, if you need to give up your New Homes 4 Animals cat or dog, you must return him/her to New Homes 4 Animals. We won't be able to refund the adoption fee, but we will place him/her in a new home. We don't ever want any of our animals to end up on the streets or at the Shelter again! We do understand that life is ever changing and sometimes circumstances change so we will always take any animal back, no questions asked. If someone you know is interested in adopting your animal please contact us anyways, so that we can be sure they are up to the challenge for the life of the pet.
