UPDATE

We are astounded and grateful to those of you who have contacted us wanting to adopt one of these lovely cats, or asking how you can help. We have all made quite a bit of progress towards finding foster and permanent homes for these animals.

The next 5 weeks are critical since the majority of the kittens will be ready for adoption in 3-4 weeks, and we need to keep the momentum going. We are accepting applications for the kittens and mama cats, but they cannot be immediately placed for adoption.

Thanks again for all of you help and understanding.... you are all making a difference!

Cats for life....

53 cats (and one dog!) were rescued Saturday, April 26th from an LA area shelter. Eight of these cats are healthy, well socialized adults. Three cats have medical issues that are currently being treated and the remaining rescued are mama cats and their kittens. The shelters are overwhelmed with unwanted cats and kittens, and have simply run out of space. As a result, all of these beautiful animals were facing immediate euthanasia.

This situation is heartbreaking; it is a situation that is repeated daily, if not hourly in shelters across the United States. It is a situation that has been created by the large number of pet owners who do not spay or neuter their pets.

Today, you can make a difference! The animals that were rescued are in immediate need of loving, permanent, indoor only homes. The adults have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, are negative for the feline leukemia and FIV virus, and have received their vaccines. Each has a special personality and lots of love to give.

Open your heart and your home to one of these special kitties who have been given a second chance to experience the joy of life. Four Paws Coonhound Rescue and Friends Inc. (a 5013c nonprofit rescue organization) is accepting applications for adoption. Qualified foster homes for mother cats with newborn kittens are also needed.

How you can help

Animal rescue organizations are only as strong as the dedication of their volunteers and the strength of their financial contributors. We welcome volunteers and donors for our cause!

Volunteer Needs:

Foster Homes: We are seeking immediate foster homes for both adult cats and mother cats and kittens. We request that foster parents make a two month commitment to the cats and or kittens that they foster. A quiet room is needed for the mama cats with babies, and an indoor only home for the adult cats. The most important part of being a foster parent to cats in need is that you have the time to give these deserving creatures lots of attention and affection.

Monetary Donations:

Four Paws Coonhound Rescue and Friends is not subsidized by any local, state or federal agency. All of the animals needs are paid for by the animals adoption fees and private donations. We are a registered 501 (3) (c) non-profit rescue organization. All monetary donations are tax deductible.

Where does the money go?
Like most rescue organizations, we do not have any paid employees; the rescue is run on the generosity of countless volunteers. The money collected for adoption fees from this rescue are immediately re-invested into another animal in need. The funds go quickly:

Other organizations that need your help!!

County of San Diego Animal Services:

The San Diego County Department of Animal Services has one of the best adoption rates in the country. They too are in dire need of foster families. During the spring (AKA Kitten Season),, they receive an average of nineteen (19) kittens each day.

Some of these kittens are old enough to be spayed or neutered and go up for adoption. The kittens that are weaned from their mothers, but are not old enough for adoption qualify for the counties "Tweenie" program. It is a program where county employees take the kittens into their homes and socialize them and allow them to grow up a bit prior to being placed up for adoption. This program is a roaring success!

The local shelters need help to save young kittens! Kittens that have been separated from their mothers require intensive time and attention to thrive. They need to be fed and cared for every few hours. The shelters do not have either the staff or the volunteers to give the required attention to these neonate kittens. Without volunteers and rescue organization, many of these baby kittens are humanely euthanized. You can help! Please either register as a volunteer or donate so that others have the financial resources to save these helpless animals!
