Our Mission
Every dog and cat deserves a safe and loving home where they are a permanent part of the family. Not every pet is lucky enough to find a forever home. Some find themselves on the streets, or sitting in a pound or animal shelter. No pet deserves such a fate. We are part of a network of nationwide volunteer rescue organizations that works hard to give these animals a second chance.
What we do
We are looking for folks who understand the unique needs of a dog or cat and are ready to make a life long committment to a pet. Our foster volunteers give these animals safe and loving temporary homes, while our coordinator works to find the right forever home for them. If you are interested in adopting one of our great dogs or cats, please complete our adoption form.
Who we are....
Four Paws Coonhound Rescue (FPCR) was started about 9 yrs ago by Rebecca Stevens. She'd recently adopted a coonhound through Petfinder. When she realized how many coonhounds find themselves without a home, she decided to join a rare network of people who work to rescue and place coonhounds. Coonhounds are still pretty rare in Southern California, but FPCR places 50+ coonhounds per year. We are still dedicated to coonhound rescue, but our mission has evolved to include any dog or cat in need of a home. If you'd like to know more about our cat-specific rescue activities, please visit our cat rescue page. Four Paws Coonhound and Friends Rescue is a designated non-profit 501 (c) (3) animal welfare organization. Our organization provides transportation, food, shelter, and support to our rescued dog friends in need.
In early 2007, we formed a rescue collaboration with the S. Ford Foundation for Animals. The S. Ford Foundation for Animals is a grassroots non profit organization that benefits homeless, neglected and abused cats and dogs in the San Diego area. These animals are rescued, provided with medical care and then found good homes for adoption. All are animals that would otherwise be euthanized because of their undesirable predicament of being homeless, abused or ill. Minor injuries or medical problems would hinder them from being considered adoptable at the local animal shelter. The S. Ford Foundation motto is "Striving to save the savable".
How you can help
We welcome volunteers and donors for our cause. Donations are used to pay veterinary bills, plus transportation costs. We are always looking for foster homes for new dogs. Fostering is an important part of our cause. A foster placement helps us assure proper socialization of each animal, and provides us with a clear picture of a dog or cat's temperament. In addition, our foster volunteers pay out of pocket for feeding costs and bring the animals to adoption events and home visits. Please contact us if you'd like to learn more about helping our cause. We are a designated 501 (3) (c) private non-profit organization, and your donations are tax deductible (and can make a huge difference for animals in need).
