Since the fall of 2008 CPR has had to turn away more dogs than usual. Due to the influx of owner surrender dogs (due to the economy) the real shelter/puppy mill rescues are seeing some serious competition for rescue slots. We understand the difficulties of the economy and we are doing the best we can but it is never enough as more dogs are flowing into rescue than ever before. The Senior dogs below are all looking for homes and would love to be your next baby to love and care for. Senior dogs are great, the little issues are not so bad and if you had the dog and these issues came up you would just 'go along' with the changes. Please consider donating to help us keep going, fostering to help us save more dogs, adopting to open a slot for the dog waiting for rescue.

| These dogs are all senior dogs in foster care right now, could you be the right home for them for their last years? They are all unique and just want to please or chill and enjoy a home/family.

Arlo is cool! He is a smart looking dog. He looks cute in the roughed-up puppy cut or the sleek poodle cut. He is just ity-bity but has a big personality. He is about 10 years old, was an owner surrender due to losing their house. That is something we hear more and more and more these days. He has UTI issues so is on special food/treats which really keeps things in check. Here is what he has to say --- I love to give kisses! I like other dogs fine but especially I like humans who I can follow around. I like to play with my toys, I have bursts of energy which my humans laugh at, and I can walk on my hind legs for treats! I sleep a lot, too. (It's a dog thing.) I like to snuggle but I’m also fine alone on the couch. I don’t bark much and I LOVE head scratches!! I gobble up my special food and chewies that help keep me healthy. Oh, I’m smart, too! It won’t take me long to get used to you and your life. Why don't you want me? UPDATE: ADOPTED! in August. |

Chanceau (how do you pronounce that? chan-sew --- it's french for lucky) Little guy. Cataracts and bad knees but you would not know it. He is getting to be good with the housebreaking. Lovable, cute as can be. Likes car rides and sitting on your lap. Doesn't know about toys. Left in the night drop-off at a shelter with no history given. That just breaks my heart...better than having them starve or abused but that must be scary for them. Eats good, when he arrived was so thin, we waited for him to put on weight before giving him his shots. He had a dental and fatty tumor removed. Has a cough but the vet says it's nothing to worry about, doesn't seem to be heart related, maybe collapsed trachea. Even in this vet picture he is cute as can be. About 12 years old (estimate). UPDATE: Due to his age and condition the foster family has observed, we decide this guy will remain in his foster home as a permanent foster until his time comes. Donations and sponsorships help dogs like this. Here is input from the foster mom 07/2009: I have fostered Chanceau since last fall, and although I knew he was an old dog, it took me a while to realize that he was sight impaired and suffered from partial hearing loss. For eight months, although amenable to the routine of me and my other dogs, he was quite passive and withdrawn. Because of his age and disabillitiea I believed that he would never find a permanent home, and I chose to be his permanent foster. Eight days ago I returned from a two week vacation with a dog-sitter caring for the dogs and my house. I was surprised and delighted when Chanceau greeted me enthusiastically with wagging tail and joyous jumps. Since my return he continues with happy and lively behaviour, stays close by me, and has joined my "pack" of poodles and poodle mixes. I think he has finally decided that he has a stable and permanent home. UPDATE: Oct 2009, Quite suddenly Chanceau had a massive heart attack; only days after being at the vet. He is missed by his foster family. |

Clay Clay was left at a shelter in Aug 2007, he was brought into rescue
later that month. He was heartworm positive, flea infested and was
just a mess. He was vetted and taken care of and around Nov 2007 he
was ready to find a new home. He was in 3 foster homes within that
time due to several issues some his, some the foster homes. Since Nov 2007 he
has lived happily as a foster in one home, he strongly preferred men at first but now will go either way, man or woman. He needs to be in sight of his humans or he cries, he has arthritis in
his spine but is on medication to help him with that. He like to walk
and be around other dogs. He must have had a bad history as he can
have an attitude and freak out when pushed beyond where he wants to
go. That is so sad for such a little guy. The perfect home for him? Someone who takes him everywhere with them and does not mind a dog with a little attitude at times. |

Coffee anyone? A Foster Mom's notes: He sleeps on the couch or in my bed (under the covers). Coffee is a cuddler. He loves to be next to you but has learned he
has to share with the other dogs.
Coffee is 10 yrs old. A home with small children is not a good place
for him, but I have seen no aggression on his part with my 2 year old
nephew.
No cats and no BIG dogs. He walks good on the leash and likes to
lay in the sun in the fenced backyard.
He does have a grade 3 heart murmur and is on daily medication. He
has slight cataracts but is very perky. He plays with the other dogs
and shares his toys with them. |
| Constance/Connie is a funny bunny. She is a card, loves a good scratch! A 13 yr old (estimate) found as a stray, thought to be brown
due to the dirt, fleas, tick/flea dirt/dried blood on her, teeth a mess and
apparent vision issues. Well you can be sure the shelter would put her
down but rescue was called. Her owner was contacted but never came to
claim her, how sad is that, but I guess it was for the best for Connie. Connie was thought to be on her last leg in July 2007. Now in
April 2009, Connie is going strong. She might not be a puppy but she
is doing well for a senior poodle with a scary background. She is pretty much blind (needs drops 2x a day) but knows her way around the foster home and
fenced yard, she likes to hang out and just be in a good place. She
likes her people and walks well on a leash. She needs a loving
environment where someone can pet her and just hang out. She has a
problem with kidney stones so she is on a special diet. Loving dog,
doing well and is happy in her foster home, she doesn't know this is
not her permanent home (it might be). |

Cuffy Nice dog, does not act his 11 years of age. He is a runner, likes to run free! Is not overly demanding of attention but likes to hang with his person. Pretty apricot/red color. He was an owner surrender after his owner died. You can see his before and after pictures above. He was a wreck but cleaned up nice, his last months with his owner were not his best but he was cared for before that. Nice all around dog who finds himself in a situation that was no fault of his own. He is iffy with cats but does not attack them. Could he be your little guy? He just adores walks on the leash, he goes crazy for them. UPDATE: ADOPTED in AUG! |

Henry is a little-one. What a little doll baby, those little round eyes are just killer. He seems so little but he has a big personality. Likes toys and running around, barks and defends you from strangers (what can he do?). Was an owner surrender. Has tummy issues which need monitoring but it's not hard (as his foster mom I know). He ate cat poop for years and that destroyed his digestive system. He gets a special diet and supplements daily and he is good. If you give him a Pepcid every other day you can keep him stable or you must monitor his poops to know when he needs one. He was adopted but his new family had some major medical issues arise and he was back into rescue. He is just a doll-baby, loves to bark and jump in circles when it's mealtime which is great since he was in such a mess when he arrived and never wanted to eat, he is just over 9 lbs now and is a strong little guy. Has a heart murmur but you would not know it, is 9 years old. Are you the perfect home? UPDATE: ADOPTED! THANK YOU! |

Terence (we call him a boy named Tracey) is a nice little dog. He had a hard road to hoe. Not sure of his past but we know his present, in rescue now for almost 1.5 years. He has separation anxiety, needs a belly band when you leave the house. Wants to have someone home with him but is not clingy, just wants to know where you are at all times. His nails make a cute tapping noise when he walks on the floors, it's sweet. He is on seizure medication which works like a charm. He has tummy isuses which are treatable with consistent diet and supplement daily. He has become perkier since he's been on glucosamine. That sounds like alot of 'pills' but it's all fairly cheap and easy to give him. He takes awhile to warm up to you but once he likes you, your in for good. He is a mix with terrier most likely but does not shed, can climb like a raccoon and is possessed with people food so your trash can must be out of his reach. Just a lovely little guy, very inquisitive and smart as heck! He is estimated to be 11 years old. |
