Meet Freddy and Chucky-Lucky.

Our stories:

Freddy and Lucky have something in common, can you guess what it is? Come on, can't you see it? Look closer! Ok, I'll tell you, it is diabetes. Both of these dogs had diabetes. Diabetes can be managed quite easily with shots and a measured food supply.

Freddy was 12 yrs old, had outlived 2 of his past 'moms'. Everyone couldn't get over how spunky he was at 12 yrs old. He lived in one of our foster homes, he developed cataracts which made it hard to navigate the dining room table area at night (all those chair legs) but other than that and a couple of shots a day, he was great! His foster parents fostered him for 3 years before he went into kidney failure and had to be put down. It was hard but best for him.

Lucky was 9 yrs old, was probably not much poodle if any but don't hold that against him. He was an owner surrender when the owner could no longer care for him, he had been well cared for since they adopted him from a shelter years earlier. Lucky had a harder time keeping his sugar levels even due to the many other dogs in the house (he would sneak some of their food and get super playful once in awhile).

Both Chucky-Lucky and Freddy passed on this summer (2008). They were with their Foster Families for just under 3 years each. When it is time for a dog to cross the Rainbow Bridge it is a hard decision. Freddy went into Kidney failure and Chucky-Lucky was having extremes in blood sugar that could no longer be controlled. Donations from people like you allowed CPR to care and love these dogs during their last years. They may have never found a forever home but they did find love with their Foster Families.
