[Adoptable Dogs List]

Featured Dog

Toffee & Butterscotch

Dachsund/Beagle Mix
Size: Small
Age: Adult
Sex: Females

These  sweethearts are the best of friends and need to be placed in a home together. Toffee, at left, is an adult female Dachshund / Beagle mix who is a shy little girl. She is more confident with people when she is with her friend Butterscotch (at right), also a female Dachshund/Beagle mix .These girls came into the shelter together — they were found as strays. Toffee enjoys being petted and is learning to be on leash and play with toys. With a proper introduction, she will probably get along with most dogs since she already is so bonded to Butterscotch. Butterscotch is a snuggle bug. She is very affectionate and loves kisses. She is a bit timid at first but recovers quickly. She gets along fine with other dogs with a proper introduction. They both appear to be potty trained. They are very sweet girls that need an understanding family to help them continue to gain confidence and blossom.

Dogs that are adopted come with a free class with Professional Dog Trainer and Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, Lisa Dohlman. Ask the shelter for details.

Featured Cat

Tiny

Brown/black Tabby
Size: Small
Age: Senior
Sex:  Male

Tiny

We are looking for an immediate foster or adoptive home for Tiny. He is a 12-year old male who is blind and has hyper-thyroidism. This requires him to have a pill crushed up in a small amount of food every 12 hours which is not possible while at the shelter. It is NOT difficult nor expensive. PLEASE let us know if you are willing to help with Tiny. He is so sweet and loveable.

Our cats are spayed/ neutered, tested for feline leukemia, vaccinated against feline distemper / feline parvo,  microchipped and have their rabies shot.

Driving Directions:
We are located at 1004 1/2 W. Madison Street (which is also Highway 92) in Washington, Iowa 52353. The shelter is behind the Casey's General Store.

Directions to our shelter from Cedar Rapids and points North:
Take 380 south. It will turn into 218 S. after crossing over I-80.
Continue until you see Hwy. 1 exit south to Kalona. When you get to Kalona, there will be a 4-way stop sign. Continue straight through the stop sign towards Washington. You will come to the Junction of Hwys. 1 and 92 where you will continue straight through. Once into town, the highway will turn into four lanes. Watch for a Pizza Hut on your left in about a block. After Pizza Hut, you'll see a True Value, and next is a Casey's. We are a gray building BEHIND the Casey's. So, if you've passed Casey's, you've gone too far.

If coming from the south on Hwy. 1, you will turn turn right onto the four-lane highway. Watch for a Pizza Hut on your left in about a block. After Pizza Hut, you'll see a True Value, and next is a Casey's. We are a gray building BEHIND the Casey's. So, if you've passed Casey's, you've gone too far.

If coming from the east on Hwy. 92, remain on 92 all the way through town to the west side. Watch for a Casey's on your right. We are a gray building BEHIND the Casey's.
