11 O'Clock start time?
I want those hours! :-)
Have you ever wondered why we don't open till 11 each day? It is because every member of the staff with many volunteers, are busy from the early morning hours till opening time cleaning every inch of every cage and animal access area. We are also exercising our residents, maintaining contact with area vets, other shelters, and many others in order to give our residents the best possible care that we can.
We are open from 11 till 5, almost every day year round. We close only due to circumstances that may affect the residents or you, and the occasional holiday.
(Someone is actually there, even on holidays!)
Call ahead to verify that we will indeed be open. You may be surprised!
WELCOME TO 2011!
51 plus years the Belleville Area Humane Society has been hard at work saving lives. BAHS has always brought our residents in from the cold, nursed them to health (when needed), gave a comfortable temporary quarters and then matched our residents to good homes in the Belleville area. 50 years of service to the community and many thousands of our 4 legged friends over the years has taught us one thing... we are only getting started.
But we are not looking back!
We are going forward to continue the mission started those many years ago!
In all of the history of BAHS, it has never been so important to help others as it is right now. We at BAHS want to make sure that not only do we see to the needs of our human friends, but also the needs of our animal friends.
We are NOT a government agency.
BAHS is a non-profit organization, relying solely on donations from individuals, companies, and organizations in Belleville and the surrounding areas.
It takes over $600,000 per year to run our facility. Moneys go first toward care and feeding of the animals in our charge and the staff necessary to make sure we keep the facility in the highest standards for our "residents." What remains goes into supplies and equipment to better the conditions of our charges. Without the continuous volunteer support we receive each and every day, this figure would be much higher. We are thankful for all of those involved, both monetarily and physically.
When an animal is brought in to the shelter, it is given a thorough examination and receives any necessary medical care. This care may be as simple as a shot and bath, or as complicated as intense vet care and around-the-clock monitoring. The animals are given a warm and safe place to reside until they find their new homes.
All pets adopted from the BAHS are micro-chipped and spayed/neutered to protect them and to ensure a healthier life.
In addition to continuous animal care, BAHS has many programs that we participate in to benefit the community and promote the adoption of our residents. Did you know that we will come to your school or organization for short educational presentations on a variety of animal topics? Check out our events page to find out where we are going next. Contact us directly to ask for a presentation in your organization.
