![]() Stevie - In need of help |
Good News! Stevie has found a home!A very good person has stepped up and has adopted Stevie, making sure he has all the treatments he needs, and the love that all of our residents crave. Donations in Stevie's name are still being accepted and are going to assist others needing this type of treatment. The funds are most welcome and have contributed to the health and well being of several animals facing heartworm and other life threatening illnesses. Please consider giving in his name! He is only one success story, but thanks to people like you we are well on our way for many more! THANK YOU! |

Milo - A True Life Story...So in 2007, back when we used to take stray animals, a cat came into the shelter that had been hit by a car and was severely injured with major head trauma, but was still quite alive. We took it to the Collinsville Animal Emergency Hospital where it had to stay for a couple days and have surgery. There we found out that the cat would live just fine, but have some brain damage. If it wasn't for him being chipped, he would have been picked up, thought to be a feral/stray animal and euthanized after 7 days. |
| For your information: | BAHS will microchip your dogs and cats for a fee of $25.00. Give them the best defense of finding you again if they should get loose, have them chipped! Milo is sure glad he had one! |
| Max! An update. | Hello Belleville Area Humane Society! Just over 1 year ago, my husband Aaron and I adopted our first dog from you. And what a year we have had with Max! I wanted to honor this anniversary by emailing a quick update and thank you. Aaron and I remember and talk about meeting Max at your shelter. We also laugh at how quickly our application was approved; "Your backyard is fenced in?" "Yes." "Approved!". Its a story that many people have heard when we're bragging about Max. Besides finding the occasional, illicit chew "toy" (ie a high-heel, kleenexes, and a bike helmet!), Max has been a perfectly behaved dog. As a runner, Max is also my favorite running-partner and we have run several races together. Anytime I touch my running shoes he begins to beg and whine. He is very popular with our friends, family, and neighbors because he is so handsome and well-behaved. In fact, people fight over who gets to watch him when we go out of town. No one understands how he ended up at the Humane Society and Aaron and I consider ourselves very lucky to have adopted him. Since then, Max has become our family. He has a spot on the couch and the backseat of the car is his. He even waits until both of us are home from work to eat his dinner. Neither Aaron, nor I can imagine what our life would be like if we hadn't come to Belleville Area Humane Society. Thank you very much. Very truly yours, |
![]() Hope |
Hope is a beautifully marked cat that I cannot understand why she is still here, and what a face. When I first met Hope, she was a tiny, funny, little gal. She turned somersaults when I would pet her. I took a liking to her right off. She had energy and loved to play but, as the months went by she started to get a little cranky. When I started taking her into the play area, she became a happier girl and I can see that cute personality coming back. She’s gained a lot of weight from lack of exercise so, she is not as frisky as she used to be. But I can still see those cute characteristics I mentioned above when I take her into the playroom. According to her records, she is inquisitive, adventuresome and playful. I know, from my time with her that she is social with humans and loves petting, but she is not clingy. I’m sure a permanent home outside a cage would really make this cat blossom into one of those special pets that come along only once in awhile. However, her records also say she does not get along with other cats. |

Great News! Kingy & Babbs have been adopted! Kingy and Babbs were turned in to us together on Oct 30, 2010. That is a long time to live in the shelter. We really want to find them a home. Babbs was adopted from us as a puppy. Their owner was moving and could no longer keep them. They are both sweet dogs. Babbs is 5 years old. She is a rottweiler mix. She is great with kids, cats and other dogs. Kingy is 4 ½ years old. He is a terrier/lab mix. He listens and is well mannered. He loves walks and the swimming pool. If you have any interest in one or both of them, please stop by and visit with them. They seem to have been overlooked, maybe because they are middle aged and we have had so many puppies but they are great dogs who deserve a second chance. |

Portia was returned because her owner did not want to deal with her dandruff. But BAHS employees saw past the dandruff. This little gal is full of personality if you give her a second look. What a conversationalist. She definitely lets you know she is around and if she wants something. She just wants out of her cage. When she gets out, she plays and comes back for petting and plays some more and comes back for more petting. She is a very social cat. She enjoys being with people and is easy to get along with. She just needs a good home to let her shine. |

Wonderfully, Tabitha has been adopted! Tabitha came to BAHS because she was pregnant and the owner did not want to deal with that. But, he lost out on a very nice cat. She is a little touchy in unfamiliar surroundings but, when she becomes comfortable she is easy to handle, social and inquisitive. She is not clingy or dependant. She tolerates other animals but doesn’t get friendly with them. She seems to be a laid back kitty. What I have observed is that she is a sweetheart. She gets so excited when she goes into the playroom that she runs all over and comes running back to get some petting. Then she checks out anything that catches her eye and runs back for more petting. She will settle down and just sit in my lap. |

Maddie is now living a wonderful life with her new partners. Maddie has been adopted! Maddie is a sweet little shihtzu whose owner was getting divorced and could no longer keep her. She came to us covered in fleas and with some bad skin conditions. We have managed to get her cleaned up and most of her skin is healed. She is very sweet and will be a great lap dog. She would probably do best in a quiet home without small children. She does still have some allergy issues and will require some extra care for that but she has a lot of love to give. Maddie is 6 years old. If you are interested in meeting her, call the Belleville Area Humane Society at 235-3712. |

Rosie is enjoying her new home, as she has been adopted! Rosie is a great girl. Her owner could no longer care for her because she was dying of cancer. She is 6 years old and sweet as can be. She really needs to find a home because she is very stressed in the kennel environment. Older dogs can be very easy pets. They are already potty trained and done with bad habits like chewing and jumping. If you are interested in Rosie, give us a call at the Belleville Area Humane Society 235-3712. |
