Mission Statement:

HELP the Animals Inc. stands for Humane Existence for Lost Pets and is home to hundreds of cats and dogs every year - animals that are lost, abandoned, and sometimes victims of cruelty, abuse and neglect. HELP provides shelter, nourishment, exercise, medical care and love for animals while actively pursuing lifetime adoptive homes. HELP is a no-kill shelter, meaning that the animals remain in our care until they find their permanent guardians, however long that may take. All of the animals at HELP are spayed or neutered before adoption, ensuring that they will not add to the unwanted pet overpopulation dilemma. They are also current on all immunizations.

Funding:

HELP the Animals is completely funded by donations. We do not receive assistance from any city or county government agencies. We rely on fundraisers and donations to be able to continue helping lost and abandoned pets.

Volunteer Opportunities

HELP is a volunteer based organization. We are always appreciative of our volunteers. We have many opportunities for direct animal care, dog walking, grooming and socializing, maintenance, and of course fundraising. HELP always needs volunteers with carpentry and general handy person skills.

Animal foster care is another volunteer opportunity. Some animals with special needs or medical care need a foster parent to give them the opportunity to feel safe and heal before being placed up for adoption. Frequently, we have kittens and puppies that need to be bottle-fed or to have some extra love and require foster care until they reach an appropriate age to be placed up for adoption. This is a great way to get involved and make a difference for our animals.

Beyond Our Doors

Over the past few years, HELP the Animals has expanded our programs and outreach to new areas of animals in need. The following are just a few examples.

-We are working very hard to promote TNR (trap/neuter/return) as the preferred method of managing feral and free-roaming cats. We assist in the care and feeding of several feral cat colonies in our community.

-HELP the Animals is a community leader in the campaign to educate our community about the cruelty and dangers of permanently chaining dogs .

-We hold vaccination clinics providing vaccinations for dogs and cats at a reduced rate.

-HELP also assists in the distribution of thousands of pounds of dog and cat food to other shelters in need of additional resources to feed the animals in their care.

-HELP the Animals provides housing and straw in the winter to homes who care for outdoor and/or free-roaming pets. All animals deserve a warm, secure place to sleep!

HELP the Animals is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless animals until they can be placed in responsible, loving homes. We rely on fund raisers, volunteers and your donations to provide a safe home for all the pets you see above, and all the others not yet listed. We are driven by our love for the animals to do all we can, but we desperately need your help too. We are committed to reducing pet overpopulation through a 100% spay/neuter program for HELP shelter animals, as well as an aggressive spay/neuter and humane treatment education program for the community. Please visit our facility at 2101 West Main Street, Richmond, Indiana. You just might find the friend you've been looking for and the opportunity to enrich many lives, including your own!
