C.H.A.N.C.E.
Canine Handlers Achieving New Career Education

Current Dogs Available

C.H.A.N.C.E. Mission Statement

To offer a second chance through training for both offenders serving a sentence in the New Castle Correctional Facility and the homeless animals of the New Castle/Henry County Animal Shelter.

How C.H.A.N.C.E. Works

Each dog has two handlers. Once a week, professional trainers hold a two hour class for both the dogs and the offenders. The offenders and dogs are trained by employees of Happy, Clean and Smart of Muncie. The offenders are required to keep a daily journal of the dog's progress. They must also monitor the dog's health closely. At the end of the six week training period, a graduation ceremony is held to show off what the dogs have learned. The program also gives offenders a skill they will be able to use after being released.

Adopting a C.H.A.N.C.E. Dog

C.H.A.N.C.E. program dogs are up to date on shots, altered, housebroken, heartworm tested and have been given heartworm and flea prevention. They have some basic obedience training. The dogs have passed thorough testing of their skills with humans and other animals. The adoption fee for these dogs is $200.

If you are interested in adopting a C.H.A.N.C.E. dog, please call, email or come in to the shelter.
