Current Volunteer Needs
*Foster families: Like most rescues, our "life's blood" is our foster families! We desperately need breed-experienced people who are willing to open their hearts and homes by offering temporary placement to Siberians, Alaskan Malamutes, or northern breed mixes who are facing euthanasia or living in unsafe or unsatisfactory environments. An application is required to become an approved foster family.
We currently have a VERY URGENT NEED for foster families. Our limited number of foster spaces are all filled, and we've recently had to turn down several requests to foster shelter dogs whose time in the shelter has run out. Imagine how difficult it is to say "no," knowing that the most likely consequence is that the dog will be euthanized.
Please consider becoming a foster family. Once you experience the loving gaze of a dog who knows you have saved him or her (and dogs DO know), you will never regret your decision to foster.
If you would like more information about fostering, please e-mail us. If you would like to speak with someone directly about fostering, we can arrange that as well.
*Transport: Assist in pulling dogs from shelters and transporting to foster families
*Transport Coordinator: an Internet and phone based position in which you would coordinate transports for our own rescues as well as network with other rescues on Internet transport lists
*Petco Adoption Days: We need people to staff our biweekly Saturday adoption days at Petco. The time commitment for this is flexible.
*Shelter Liaison: Maintain contacts with shelters on the status of adoptable dogs; call and/or visit shelters to gather information on dogs; position could also involve writing profiles for the dog's website posting
*Petfinder Listings: Utilize writing skills to write profiles for the dogs' Petfinder listings
*Photographs for Website: Travel to foster homes and shelters to take photos of the dogs for their web postings
*Veterinary Liaison: We desperately need someone to call veterinarians and establish new relationships with "rescue-friendly" vets--ones who will help us provide quality veterinary services while giving us a rescue discount .
*Volunteer Coordinator: Recruit, field inquiries, and match volunteers with group needs; will also maintain communication with volunteers
*Foster Coordinator: Recruit, field inquiries, and handle applications for new foster families
*Application Processing: We occasionally need help with reference checks. We often need assistance with home visits and networking with other rescues for long-distance home visits.
