HCHS is a strong advocate of spaying and neutering pets.  We believe it is the primary way to lower the number of animals that come in to our shelter.  Many family pets may be producing litters (sometimes multiple litters) that end up in our shelter.  Many of these animals can not be placed or adopted and have to be euthanized.

For every animal that is altered, unwanted litters are prevented, adult pets are less likely to wander, and future health problems can be eliminated.  We believe that promoting spay/neuter in Hopkins County will, over time, reduce the number of animals that come in to our shelter, thus lowering our euthanasia rate.

The following programs are available through HCHS:

HCHS Assisted Spay Neuter Program

This program is available to residents of Hopkins County who meet certain income requirements.  You must receive some type of government assistance such as disability, food stamps, social security, etc. to be eligible.  Come by the shelter with proof of income status to register your pet.  You will only pay a $10 co-pay for your pet's surgery.  The remainder of the cost will be absorbed by the HCHS spay/neuter fund.  To avoid extra fees please bring your pet's rabies certificate at the time of registration.
