I adopted my cat Mary-Ann in October of 2008 from your shelter and I guess it was one of the best moves I ever made in my life. She fills every single day of my life with so much joy and pleasure, it seems she was just made for me. Her character is very special, intelligent, she acts more like a dog which is funny. She brings stuff to you, catches catnip-mice like a dog would catch a stick and bring it right back to you. She knows what "sit" means. Also, she sits on the chair with us at dinner time, just sticking her little cute head out up to the table, which is mindblowing, and watching us eat.Isn't she gorgeous?

Charger (Snicks) and Champ (Van) are doing great! They are adjusting well to our family and finding their place. Currently they share a crate while we are away or they need a nap, (or I do..lol) but I am sure that soon enough they will be to big and they will have their own space. Our boys are having fun with them. -The Buckheim Family (3/11)

I just wanted to let you all know that Pebbles is doing sooo well in her new home, and to thank you for taking such good care of her until I adopted her! She has really come out of her shell, and loves to cuddle and play! She's is just so friendly and cute - we are so glad to have her part of the family! Thank you! - Alison Kendall & Pebbles (9/10)

Harvey, formely Rascal, has made a few friends since we brought him home. Thanks a lot!! -Isac and Emma (9/10)

Mattie's doing great! She seemed to adjust and feel comfortable in my house within about 2 hours of coming home. She's well behaved and affectionate, and I love having her! -Jill (9/10)

On his first night home - didn't take him too long to get comfy! -Lauren (6/10)

Piper is a great cat and took to me the first night. I think it was the catnip! She follows me around and likes to sit on my lap. She has quite the spunky personality at times. She is very playful and sweet and I like having her around - I'm glad I chose her. -Amanda (3/10)

Tony now has run of the house and is enjoying every minute of it. This morning he was lying on his back, purring away with Oliver next to him. He also loves to play by throwing the toy over to you to throw it back (does he have dog in him?). Anyway, I couldn't be more pleased and I know there was a reason why there were no cats up for adoption at MHS - it was meant for me to get Tony. Thanks again! -Liz (2/10)

We just wanted to let you know how great Eddie is adjusting to life at the Moore household. We can definitely understand why you were sad to see him go. He is a wonderful dog! Thank you again for all of the hard work you do at the shelter and for the wonderful care and love you obviously showed to Eddie. -The Moores (11/09)

Andy and Daisy are starting to relax in their new home. They spend most of the time in "their" room, but Andy slipped through the pet door and was exploring the rest of the bedrooms last night. They are very playful with each other, and they have been chasing each other, wrestling, climbing on shelves, etc. - typical kittens! Thank you for allowing us to bring them into our family. -Rose-Marie (9/09)

As you can see from the attached pictures he and Samson are getting along just fine. In the morning they watch me as I shave and then as I head downstairs to feed them, they both run ahead of me side by side down the stairs, their two little butts with their two tails straight up, waving in unison. They run into the kitchen and stand, each by his own bowl, and wait for the food to be served! Anyway, they are just a wonderful pair: great company for me and also for each other when I am away from home. -Adrian (5/09)

Ozzie and his brother are doing great. No problems what so ever. They play all the time. I'm glad I rescued both. Just wanted you to know he's got a good home. -Vicki (4/09)

Andy is doing wonderful in his new home. The first day we brought him home he was a little nervous. After a couple of hours he was exploring the house. He sleeps in my bed and my daughters. Oh boy! Does he fuss when something doesn't go his way. He does this murmur meow, like he's talking back. He is really happy and so are we. -Latasha (2/09)

Just a quick note to thank you wonderful people there at the shelter for all you do. My sister, Jenny, adopted your lovely little cocker Lady last week and I'm here to tell you that it made wonderful changes in her life. She grieved so terribly for her last dog that we were really worried for her. Lady will lead a charmed and very loved and pampered life. She's already part of the family and reigns over the household. Just so you know, you not only save animals, you save people too. -Linda (1/09)

Mya and Lucy love eachother and have become the best of friends! Thank you for all you do for the animals, I am glad we could give Mya a good home! -Jon & Nicole (1/09)

Just wanted to drop a note to say thank you. My wife and I adopted a wonderful cat named Leo a few weeks ago from the RO Animal Shelter. He is doing very well and is really enjoying his new home. We have a Scottish Terrier named Willie and the two of them are fast becoming best friends - even taking naps together. Thanks to the staff and volunteers who take care of the animals and provided this little guy to us. -John & Tammy (11/08)

I'm writing this e-mail with a heavy heart. We had to put Hans down today. Although we miss him so very much, we know he is in heaven waiting for us. He is no longer in pain or blind or sick. He can run and chase the squirrels again happily. He was such an inspiration to us - a wonderful wonderful dog. No dog will ever replace him. Thank you to your shelter for giving us the opportunity to know and love Hans. -The Halters (3/08 - 11/09)

I just wanted to give you an update on Jake and his new home. Jake is doing great. He has been a good boy and you would think that he would just be running around the house all the time - not the case. He's content to lay at my feet and follow me around. We do go for walks every day - even if it's raining. He puts his tongue out to lick the rain drops. What can I say - he's a GREAT dog and I am blessed to have him! -Lori (6/08)

We want to thank you & everyone at the Royal Oak Animal Shelter for allowing us to adopt Brandi. She is such a joy! Brandi is doing very well & loves her new home. We are so grateful that Brandi has come in to our lives. We love her dearly & she is a very precious member of our family. Thanks again for allowing us to bring Brandi into our family. -The Kerrs (9/08)

Rosie, the red & white beagle I adopted, is doing great. She is such a little treasure - from cuddling in bed to defending me from the mail that drops in through the slot in the front door. I knitted her a red and pink Nordic ski sweater for the winter and she likes to wear it while patrolling the neighborhood for squirrels. I have lost 11 pounds; she is an excellent athletic trainer! Rosie LOVES my son and they play very energetic games of "Frisbee" and "Mad Dog" (he yells, "mad dog" and she runs around him like a lunatic). Her joy for EVERYTHING is contagious. Best wishes and my grateful thanks to all of you. -Marina (10/06)

Courtney and Trixie are doing great-- playing a ton (and getting into plenty of mischief!) and they just LOVE cuddling. They are great with new people, and couldn't be friendlier. They purr almost constantly and win everyone over instantly. I'm so glad to have them as new additions in my life! Thank you! -Steph (9/08)

Things are going well for me and Boswell (aka Boz). At first he was a little scared, but his curiosity got the best of him and he could not help but explore. So far, he is everything I want in a cat - affectionate, friendly, curious, and playful. The first few mornings he cried when I left for work/school, but this morning he discovered the beauty of windows and was too busy watching the world outside to get upset. Thanks for taking such good care of him, he is a great cat. -Sarah (7/08)

Allie is still very affectionate but has a little stubborn streak. She is also playing with toys now, so I think she has adjusted just fine. Thank you for being so helpful during my adoption of her. You helped me make a great choice for both of us. -Cathy (6/08)

We are just "crazy" over him. My husband can't get over how totally precious he is , but he just loves cats too. It is we who are blessed by Brennans presence, his spirit is so gentle and sweet when I touch him and pet him I feel like I am touching an angel, and I TOUCH him a lot. -The Fitzgeralds (5/08)

Molly is the sweetest and she gets lots of love!! Thank you again -Brian & Deanna (2008)

Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know that Sadie is doing great! She went camping in Traverse City at the state park.....it was her first camping trip.....and also went for her 1st boat ride! She is the best dog I have ever had and still provides us plenty of laughs and entertainment everyday. She loves car rides, trips to Petsmart, and going to the Bark Park! -Juliette (12/07)

"Trooper" or Mausle is doing well and his personality hasn't changed one bit - he is exactly the same as before, which really surprises me. Thank you for taking such good care of him. I can tell that he was very well taken care of because he HASN'T changed at all. He seems very happy. -The Hoefflins (11/07) (Trooper was re-united with his family after nearly 10 months of being apart!)

Lily and I had a few problems at first, but I had faith that she was a special girl and we would work through these issues together. Today she is just perfect. She loves to take long walks and she especially loves her time in the sauna. She is my girl and I love her and I know she loves me too. -Michael (5/06)

I understand his loyalty, I will not disappoint him. -Steve (3/11)

Just wanted to let you know that Candy is doing great! She is the best dog, we love her to death. She loves to play in her new yard, run around the house, play with her toys, and of course sleep on the sofa. She is very smart, well-behaived, well-mannered, and very loving. I know she is happy in her new home. Thank you so much for our loveable Candy girl. -Michele and Dre (2/11)

I just wanted to tell you how much we LOVE our new dog Dash (Dasher) whom we adopted just a few days before Christmas. He is just a sweet boy and has settled into our family as if he's been here all along. Thank you all so much for taking such good care of him until he could find his way to us. Our home is filled with even more laughter, love, joy (and mischief) now because of Dash. -The Stapelman Family (12/10)

We feel do blessed to have such a kind and caring cat. Thank you for all your help and making it such a smooth transition. -Aaron and Anne (12/10)

Here is a picture of Izzy with her new coat. She is totally my moms dog and is just a wee bit spoiled. Just thought you may enjoy the picture. (10/10)

Murray is adjusting really well so far. Thanks for everything today! -The Houstons (9/10)

We want to send a heart-felt "thank you" to the entire staff for caring and raising our lovely and sweet cat Kay. I know it's only been few days since the adoption, but Kay already feels like a part of our family. We couldn't have asked for a better cat!! I hope more people who come into your shelter realize the value and reward of adopting an adult cat. Our Kay is just wonderful! Thank you again! -Krista & Kevin (7/10)

JR has fit right in! Kuddles and Pepe follow him around (their going to get plenty of exercise with our new boy here); they really like him. He's finally settled down in the house - sitting next to me as I type this. Thank You for allowing us to take him home with us, I know he'll be a wonderful assist to us all. -Joyce and Robert (5/10)

Cash is doing great - hope to bring him by for visit soon. Thank you for all you do for our four legged friends. We sure do love him. Thanks for letting us be part of our family. You are all some of the lords guardian angels for animals, god bless you all. -The Youngs (1/10)

Just wanted to give you an update on Kylie, she has added such joy to our lives I can't imagine not having her here with us. She is spoiled beyond belief, sleeps in my bed and is learning all the do's and don'ts but has proved to be a fast learner. We love her and she absolutely has a forever home. Thanks for all the work you guys do. -The Sledges (1/10)

At first he was jumpy and was hiding a lot, but now he's gotten settled and enjoys hanging out and playing with his brother and people (at all times of the day and especially night). He also thinks that the aquarium is waaaay better than the TV, since it's so much more interactive. Finally, he started listening to his "new" name (Ronin) but still has to get used to all the other nicknames that his mother is giving him. -Lisa & Lutz (5/09)

We just wanted to let you know that Vivie is doing great. She is staying in our daughter's bedroom and she is quite the snuggler. She is settling in and seems content and relaxed. Thank you so much for all that you do. Adopting from your shelter was a very pleasant experience. We will definitely recommend RO Animal Shelter to any friends that are looking to adopt a new furry member to their family. -The Rodgers Family (3/09)

Bebe - We love her!!!! -Tracey (12/08)

Peeko is wonderful and adjusting just fine to his new home. We all just love him to pieces. It is like a party when he wakes up from his nap. We do not like to bother him so when he does get up we all take turns holding and kissing him until he goes back for another nap. He is going potty and eating/drinking just fine. Keep in touch and god bless you for all you do. -Lisa (6/08)

Ruby is very happy and has a great personality. Thank you again for all you do. -Charlene (11/08)

Kizzy is an absolute fool for being brushed and petted and both my partner and I agree that she is the purriest cat we've ever met. He estimated that she purrs about 75% of the time; we even have seen her purring in her sleep! Thank you for taking care of our Gingercat until our paths were able to cross! -Kate & Gordon (10/08)

Roxy is doing wonderfully. Thanks for taking such good care of her for so long! -Kristen (9/08)

Hi everyone! King's first night was a success. I called him up on my bed and he stayed and had his marrow bone treats and a couple of low fat kettle chips. He slept with me all night - no moving around. Also he met my neighbors and had his brush and comb. He liked the vanilla mint dog toothpaste. After dinner, he laid by my chair as we started to relax for night time. He did come up on my lap but only the front part. Soon I will have all of him in my lap for rocky bye. -Charlene (7/08)

After two years with my Mother and I, she still has a "Happy Tail" to tell. My Mother will be 78 in a few weeks and has had some health issue over the last year. Recently she had a minor heart attack and my Mother is convinced Mia knew it was coming on. There is a special bond between Mia and my Mom. Mia is a wonderful sweet dog. We were very lucky to find her. Mia is doing well and will continue to live her "Happy Tail" with me for the rest of her days. -Linda (4/07)

We can not thank you enough for caring for our little boy and keeping him safe and allowing us to add him to our clan. You probably don't remember me but you may remember my red haired buddy Vasili (Rusty). He insisted I send you a heartfelt thank you note for having taken care of him. This being the Thanksgiving he "told" me it would be appropriate to thank you and your staff for saving his life. He is loved, has friends, and is enjoying every day. My life would not be the same without him. He is my best friend and I love him. And we both love you. Thank you! -Vladimir (11/09)

Just wanted to send a couple of pictures of SPOILED Big D for your success stories. Here he is laying on "His" bed. Which technically is my bed, but don't tell him that. He thinks its his. As usual he is just an Angel. He makes me smile and laugh every day. I may be a little bias, but he is the greatest dog in the world. In general he just a saint at 90 lbs he is just a gentle giant of a Pit-bull. - Kurt (10/09)

I just wanted to let you know that Trixie has adjusted beautifully. She loves her big fenced in back yard. She gets along and plays very well with her 8 month old sister Rat Terrier and 3 & 4 year old Bichon cousins. She is an absolute joy! Thank you for letting me adopt her. -Gloria (6/09)

They dig holes together in the yard, run and play together, and even talk to each other in their own language! Now, I find both of the boys in bed snuggled up with us at night! Every time when we come home after running errands, Odie has to be the first one to greet us at the door, and talk to us. He gives us hugs and tons of kisses, and lets us know how much he missed us! -The Banas (3/09)

Just wanted to let you know that after a week of having Ava, her cute factor and lovable personality is still going strong! We can see more and more how hard it must have been for her foster mom to part with her. She is sleeping in my youngest daughter's room every night by choice. Thank you again for allowing us to adopt Ava. -Lisa (9/08)

I'm writing to give you an update on the grey kitten that we adopted. She has a ton of energy and loves her new home. She lets the kids play with her and is not scared of anything really...very social! She loves our other older cat, and they seem to be getting along just fine. She loves to nibble on toes and noses, and just to relax on our laps. She's a perfect addition to our family. -The Rawlins Family (8/08)

We are thrilled with them! It has taken them a little while to come out of their shells, but we are already having purr-fests and snuggle-a-tons. -The Granings (8/08)

Maggie is doing wonderful! She loves to sleep with my son, they are real buddies. She still loves to look out the window and the doorwall and watch the birds. Four years ago we adopted Buddy from your shelter and I just wanted to give you an update on him. I am not sure if anyone there still remembers him, but he had spent quite some time at your shelter and I believe another shelter too (possibly over a year total). He also has scars up and down his legs. He has been such a wonderful companion to us over the years and just an all-around great dog. Thanks again for all that you do to keep EVERY dog safe until they find a loving home. -Erica & Brice

Buzz is doing just fine in his new home. He was great on the trip home and has had a lot of fun since coming home with us. Well, he may have preferred not to go to the vet or the groomer, but he's doing just fine! Buzz is a wonderful dog and we are so happy we found him! Thank you for helping him become a part of our family! -The Sislers (12/07)

Izzy's doing fine. She comes with me to work and sleeps most of the day or chews on her rawhide. She likes her yard and goes out to chase the squirrels up that tree she's next to every time we get home. We went camping near Wellston in the Manistee Forest and she was very good. She is afraid of big fish! She fell asleep in the wood pile but looked very comfortable. She loves to swim, but I didn't get any pictures of her in the water. -Tyler (9/07)

I am so grateful to have Zeus and seeing all of you was a nice reminder of how he became such a great cat. He says "hi" and send hugs to everyone. -Kim (2007)

In a word...she's awesome! We fell in love with her so fast neither of us knew what happened. Judging by the love she gives back, Harlo feels the same way. Neither of us can imagine why anyone would abandon Harlo, but we're glad some did or else she wouldn't be a part of our life! Thank you for taking such good care of her for so long. Thanks for making such a wonderful difference in our life! -The Bufalinis (9/07)

STAFF & VOLUNTEER ADOPTIONS

This shy gal, with the amazing copper-colored eyes and crazy hair has blossomed into the happy princess she is today. I am so glad I adopted Beatrice!!! -Denise (2010)

Cody and one of his new brothers. Cody gave this brother a bath on Saturday. I would say he has adjusted -Roberta (6/08)

Finnegan literally walked into the shelter one cold February day. He was skin and bones. After a short stay at the shelter, Fin came home with us and now sleeps in our bed every night. He enjoys taking naps on top of the fridge, sleeping on our backpacks and making his dad wake up in the morning by licking his armpits. (3/09)

It seemed incredible to me that such a small dog would be wandering the streets alone. Once I incorporated this Japanese Chin into my household, he literally took it over. He has won over the hearts of all of us. (dogs and cats included) He is such a fun-loving joyful boy to have around! -Pat (6/08)

Yogi was found in a dumpster at the car dealership behind the shelter. He was only 7 weeks old! I really believe he was meant to be with me. He is the most fun loving, playful, sweet cat I know! I absolutely love him and I am so thankful that the shelter was there to take him in and really care for him! The staff and volunteers are awesome there, he couldn't have been in better hands! -Heather (7/09)

Chazz was just supposed to be a "foster cat"... but I just couldn't give him back, so now he is part of the family! He is the best! I love him! -Janel (4/10)
