About HSHV

The mission of the Humane Society of Huron Valley is to find a home for every adoptable animal in its care and to prevent cruelty to animals.

HSHV serves all of Washtenaw County, providing:
  • Food, shelter and care for stray and unwanted animals
  • Adoption of companion animals
  • Full service veterinary clinic, including low cost spay/neuter services

Our Shelter facility cares for lost, stray, and injured animals, as well as for animals surrendered by their owners. Our full-service Veterinary Clinic provides medical and dental care, including low-cost spay/neuter services. Our Cruelty and Rescue service is available to rescue sick or injured stray animals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for all of Washtenaw County. Our TNR Program works with caretakers of feral cat colonies in Washteanw County.

Adoptions

Have you adopted a pet from HSHV?

We have dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits and occasionally, ferrets, guinea pigs and other caged pets that need caring homes. The Humane Society of Huron Valley is open to the public from noon until 6:00 pm, seven days a week (closed holidays). Please note that 5:30pm is the latest we can start an adoption meeting.

Check out our "Diamonds in the RUFF" Special Needs Animals. These animals will need special care and love but are deserving of a forever home of their own.

We have PERFECT PAIRS that need adoption. These companion animals are two peas in a pod and they must be adopted together. Two is BETTER than one! Please visit our Perfect Pairs.


In order to adopt, you must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, with proof of residence.

If considering adoption, please bring the following with you when you visit the shelter:
  • vaccination records for your current pets
  • a copy of your lease, if applicable
  • a driver's license or other proof of address
Our low adoption fee includes:
  • Sterilization - spay or neuter
  • De-worming and basic vaccinations, including rabies
  • Feline Leukemia test for cats
  • Heartworm test for dogs
  • Free microchip identification
  • Health screening
  • 7-day health guarantee
  • Low cost pet insurance program
  • Temperament testing & behavior advice
  • Free dog training DVD
  • A new companion for your family!
  • One free good manners training class for new dog owners

Adoption Prices (effective 2-1-2008)

Cats
Kittens - 6 months and younger$100*
Cats - over 6 months old$60**
Senior Cat - 8 years or older$40
*Adopt one kitten and get 1/2 OFF the second kitten

** Adopt one cat(over 6 months old) and get 1/2 OFF the second cat(over 6 months old)

Cats(over 6 months old) identified as "Perfect Pairs" are $60 for both

Senior cats(8 years or older) identified as "Perfect Pairs" are $40 for both

Dogs
Puppies - 6 months and younger$225
Small breed dogs$225
Dogs - Over 6 months$130
Senior (8 years or older)$100
Dogs identified as "Perfect Pairs" adopt one get the second adoption FREE
Ferrets$50
Rabbits$35
Pocket pets (gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters)$10

Only one discount is applied to any adoption fee/transaction.

While we do strive to make sure our website reflects accurate pricing, we reserve the right to change prices without notice.

Additional low-cost services include dental treatment, softclaws silicone nail caps for cats, and heartworm preventative.


ANY SENIOR CITIZEN (62 years or older) will receive a
$20 discount on adoptions.


Senior Citizens adopting Senior Animals are eligible for
a FREE adoption.
