Featured are dogs that have been adopted through MGSDR:
OCTOBER 2002
MURRAY: is a 5 year old neutered, bi-color male. He was found as a stray. Murray loves to play and fetch. He does better with women, but if given time does warm up to men. He is not good with other dogs, and would do best with older children. He needs a family with lots of love and attention. He has all shots and is fixed.
Murray is now in a loving home!
AMAZING GRACE: Is a very lucky girl, she is a female GSD found a stray stuck in the middle of a 4 lane highway. All skin and bones, until a loving person came along and could not overlook her plight. We are guessing Grace to be about 2 years old. She has put on some weight and should be over 100 pounds (one big girl ) She needs a fenced yard, she is a runner, and maybe that is how she got lost. So she needs a fenced yard and to be on leash when walking. Amazing Grace is being cared for in a home with another dog and cats and is great with all. She is a sweet girl, but does need a little more training, but lots of love and good food.
Another success story, Grace is no longer homeless!
SEPT 2002
KAIYA: 3 month old female. Dark black and tan. She was purchased from a pet store by a college student, who has found that she can no longer care for her. Kaiya does suffer from a common genetic disorder in shepherds called megaesophagus. This means just what it says: That her esophagus is enlarged. Sometimes as the puppies grow this problem is no longer an issue because this breed is large. But it is helpful to have an elevated food bowl. Most likely she will live a long happy life with no problems other than occasional vomiting due to eating too fast or drinking too much.
Kaiya was adopted into a loving and understanding home!
KYRA: Is approx 4 year old female Black and red GSD. She is spayed, all up to date on vaccines. SHe was adopted from a shelter because her owner could not handle this smart girl. Kyra is VERY Smart and driven. She prefers to be an alpha female and will run the roost if you let her. If you are interested in Search and Rescue, tracking, agility, flyball or obedience, THIS GIRL IS FOR YOU. She is housetrained and walks well on a leash and is a quick learner. Preferably an experienced handler.
Kyra has a new home!
Angel is sweet 4 year old female sable. She is a fence jumper and must be on a cable when she is outside. But is she crate trained and really enjoys the company of others. She has some obedience but will still need to go to classes with her new owners.
Angel has a new home!
JULY 2002
STAR is a beautiful 4 year old spayed black and tan female. She is up to date on all vaccinations and Heartworm. She is good with children, but may be a little too rambunctious for very small children. Star is crate trained, not completely housebroken, but well on her way. She prefers to be the alpha female dog, so does not always get along with other female dogs. Very affectionate and loves car rides. Star was rescued from a shelter with what appeared to be her daughter, the adopter has recently had some health issues and feels she is unable to care for Star any longer.
STAR has a wonderful new home!
SADIE was found as a stray. Her foster homes states "She's really doing very well with only occasional separation anxiety behavior. She would be a perfect in a one-dog family or even as a second dog if the other dog is more laid back. She can get a little silly if the other dog is too playful and doesn't mind as well, as is the case here with my other GSD. She is mindful when she's around my greyhound and yellow lab because they aren't the playful sort. I have never seen her behave in an aggressive or dominant way with any of my dogs, who are more on the dominant side."
Sadie now has a happy new home!
SOPHIE: This little girl was found on New Year's Eve outside of a hospital. If her foster home had not taken her, she would have frozen to death. She is a cute little GSD wannabe, about 40 lbs and still growing. She gets long well with dogs, cats and kids, and is crate trained. She is about 9 months old and would love to have a place of her own. (She is being fostered with 2 other dogs and 3 cats!!!)
Sophie has a wonderful new home!
Hilly is an adult female with a loving personality. She is intelligent, great with kids, housebroken, and a good traveler. She is neutered, in excellent health, and all of her shots are up to date. If you are looking for canine companionship and a reason to get some exercise, you may be the right match for her. She likes to keep watch over the house from indoors or out and would probably do best in a situation where there are two or more people to keep safe. Hilly has lived in three homes, counting her current one. She is very adaptable and will bond well with a new owner. If you take care of her, she will take care of you. Hilly does have some issues with cats.
Hilly has a new and loving home!
SAVANNAH is a one year old black and tan female. She is spayed and current on all vaccinations. She currently weighs about 50 pounds. The family does adore her and finds no real faults with her, but due to their allergies she has to be housed elsewhere or outside and they do not feel it is fair to her. She is great with kids and adults, cats and other dogs, and has a wonderful personality.
Savannah has been adopted!
IRIS: This is a 1 year old female black and tan bundle of German Shepherd energy. She gets along well with other dogs, especially if they like to play!! She will need some obedience classes to learn some manners but has a sweet disposition. Not recommended around small children as she will knock them to the floor with all her enthusiasm for life!
Iris has been adopted!
APRIL 2002
MIKA is a one year old black and tan male. His family is looking to place him simply because their lives have changed and they can not afford 2 dogs. Their other dog, an older Golden Retriever, was treated for heartworm and they know it would be too difficult to place him. A nice, handsome pup looking for the right place to live!
MIKA was adopted, by a family who recently purchased some property and will be building soon. They have a little girl whom Mika seems to adore.
LOBO is a 6 month old solid black male. He is a big softy and getting bigger every day. He is good with dogs and cats but because of his previous owners, he might be happier with older kids. Lobo was tormented by some kids in his previous living arrangement. He is almost totally house broken, will still need some training, especially since he is a puppy and will be a big boy. He is learning new things everyday.
Lobo has been adopted by the family who previously adopted another MGSDR dog, Tommy!
MARCH 2002
LUKE: Is an 8-9 month old dark black and tan male. This is a very nice boy, he is sweet, adores people is starving for attention, he already knows sit, down, and shake but still needs some obedience to help control his exuberance. He has been an outdoor dog with no exposure to cats. This is a BIG puppy who with some training and self control will make a great family pet.
Luke's foster home says:
"Just wanted to let you all know that Luke went to his new home today. She fell in love with him from the start and I don't think I've ever seen anyone so excited about getting a dog. She went directly to the store to buy toys and treats after she left our house. She was practically crying when we pulled into her driveway to deliver him. He's definitely going to be loved. Thank goodness because we were all getting attached. (Except the cats, they're glad he's gone!) He's going to enjoy his new life. Thank you all for helping me make this happen."
Apollo is a bundle of energy who loves to play with his toy. He can be pushy with other dogs but seems to be fine with cats. He will need someone who will take him to obedience classes so he can learn some manners. His one fault...he will jump a fence. He will need to be on a cable when he is outdoors.
Adopted thanks to the internet!
THUNDER: is a 9 month old black and tan male puppy who was owned by an 80 year old couple. He is a very sweet dog but has no manners. He must go to some training classes so he will learn who is the boss. He fine with people but has major issues with cats. He is already neutered and up to date on everything. All he needs is a home.
A family who had been on our waiting list for a while to find the right match, thought it was right when Thunder became available. It pays to wait for that right dog.
TACOTA: If Tacota were human he would be a basketball player. He is 2 years old, long legs and loves to play and be with people. His first owner tried to starve him, so he is really attached to food. But he is sweet and gentle for all he has gone through. He is crate trained and has some obedience training too.
Adopted! Tacota, to a wonderful lady who will spoil him and give him love. She recently lost another canine companion and her little terrier rescue has been missing another canine friend. She has always wanted a GSD, but things never worked out until these two found each other.
February 2002
SADIE II: is a 4.5 year old sable female. She weighs approx 80 pounds. She is a family dog, used to running on an acre property. She is very ball driven and will play fetch all day long. Sadie is obedience trained and housetrained. She is also affectionate and is loyal as a GSD should be. She is good with older children and most dogs. Activity level is moderate to slightly above average.
Sadie has been placed and has the potential to be a tracking girl.
MAVERICK is a handsome 3 year old male, who weighs about 75 -80 pounds. He has great house manners, is crate trained, and rides well in a car. He is gentle with cats and small dogs. He is a good watch dog, and is aloof toward strangers, bonding with his family and remaining loyal forever. Maverick is another victim of poor breeding practices from a large kennel that MI GSD Rescue has rescued far too many dogs from in the past. He should be kept fit, active and trim because he has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Currently his dysplasia does not slow him down! He loves to play ball and fetch sticks.
Maverick new family understands his needs, and will keep him fit, and loves him for the special boy he is!
PRESTON is a 7 year old bi-color male. He is good with people, kids, puppies, most other dogs. He would like a fenced yard to romp in.
PRESTON was adopted. He has found a loving family willig to work with him and were charmed by him all the way. This boy was placed thanks to the website, as they came from out of state.
DAKOTA is an adult female (2-5 years old). She is an active girl with a lot of energy and is very intelligent, constantly pacing and panting when bored. She is dominant with other dogs. Dakota just loves being outside. She likes the neighborhood kids when they come over and play ball with her. She has never been around cats. Dakota travels well in a car and is crate trained. She is not a fence jumper or digger, but she does like to bark when she sees something out of the ordinary. She would thrive in a home with lots of activity, or having a job like agility or flyball.
Dakota was placed with a retired couple who had recently lost their Doberman.
NINA 3 year old spayed female black and tan GSD. She is a family dog has been around dogs and people and is friendly to them. He owner is a dog training professional so she has been socialized well. Nina has been formally obedience trained and responds well to all basics. She does have pancreatic insufficiency which is under control with a supplement and diet and should not affect her in the long term. She is house trained and loves to play with her ball.
NINA has been adopted! Wow did that sweet face generate a lot of interest through the internet. Unfortunately a lot of people backed out when they found out how expensive pancreatic insufficiency could be. But she has found a loving home now!!! Persistence paid off.
MIEKO is a 4 year old bi-color spayed female. She is looking for a new home because of a divorce situation. She is a very sweet girl. She is very friendly with people, and although she has not been raised with kids, we do not believe she would have any problems with children. She is housebroken, good with cats, trained, loves to ride in the car. Mieko does not like LOUD voices and will leave and go into another room if she hears them.
MEIKO was adopted to a loving new family thanks to her face being posted on the site!
January 2002
Lakeshore Petsitters has a one year old male GSD who is in need of a new home. He's one year old and very beautiful. He is from a neglect situation so was a little thin and thrives on human contact. He's already gained a few pounds and will probably put a on a few more. He has room to grow into those paws for sure! He is staying with a foster family and is learning to behave. He will sit on command and is working on down. He is very friendly and is working on not jumping too. He gets along well with other dogs and accepts strangers after sniffing. We are calling him Collin.
COLLIN has quickly settled in to life on the farm. He's already made made friends with the horses, as well as with the cat, Fenton, which is very important, since the cat definitely runs the place! They spent the entire first evening playing together, and show every sign of becoming inseparable!
Abby- Abby's an 18 month old spayed female with puppy papers. Very high energy with a sense of humor. Abby was mismatched with an older couple that couldn't keep up with her and didn't understand dogs. She's crate trained, rides well, gets along with some other dogs. Young children and cats are not a good idea, due to her enthusiasm. Her training has just started and won't take long. This girl is SMART! Her manners need polishing but Abby could do ANYTHING for an owner who ideally is smarter than she is, experienced and talks "dog". No couch potatoes need apply!
ABBY was adopted through the website!
SAMMY is a 4 year old bi-color male. He has been a farm dog. He is responsive to commands, and is a quick to learn. His family can no longer care for him, as they have health issues of their own, and he is fighting with their other dog who is dominant and aging. Sam generally gets along well with most other dogs. He is great with people, and kids, and has been around birds and fowl, but has not been around cats. He has a lot of potential and wants to please, he just needs guidance.
SAMMY has a farm of his own to play on now, with a female GSD playmate. They do rounds with the farmer and then share the night sitting by the fire.
ACE is a 4 year old black and tan male. He and Preston are out of the same kennel. The breeder is looking to place them because they deserve a loving family home rather than to reside in a kennel. Ace has been temperament tested and is great with people, kids, and most other dogs. He does need a fenced in yard as he is used to getting his exercise by running in a yard.
Ace was adopted through the website!
Alexandria is a 1.5 year old black and tan female. She is very sweet, and longing for attention.
Alexandria found her new home through an adopt-a-than!
