COSTS: Thanks to support during our brief fundrasing efforts,
adoption fees are based below minimum veterinary costs (we do not
charge our costs for daily care, feeding and sheltering). Adoption fees for Cats are typically
about $50 or 2 cats for $75. Dog adoption fees are usually $100. These fees, including vaccinations, and if of age, spaying or
neutering. If the pet is not yet spayed or neutered, we will have a
contract that requires the pet to be altered.
Free behavioral support is provided for the life of the pet. For dogs, this
may be a referral to an obedience class or behavior consultant.
If pets are returned within one month of adoption, the fee is refunded.
Cats and kittens are FeL/FIV tested prior to bringing them into ARC; dogs are heartworm tested.
Cats are current on vaccinations for RCCP and are dewormed. Dogs are current on the basic 5, plus rabies and are dewormed. You'll note this is much less that if you had to maintain all this health care from your vet, and also much less than many other shelters (yes, we do love monetary donations!).
Other Requirements:
We are up-front and honest about what we expect from an owner and the vet and
behavior information we know of this pet. We expect that if there is anything
about the adoption with which you disagree, it would be in all our best interests to discuss it.
If we continue to disagree then we can recommend other shelters and rescues for you to visit.
Cats and kittens must remain as inside pets. Cats and kittens have
claws intact (please ask us why and how we keep our cats from
scratching). Dogs and puppies are to be inside pets also. Our staff is
ready and willing to discuss why we ask for these requirements and also
provide training and behavioral support for any of your adopted pet's
needs. We assure you and require that if at any time, you may no longer
keep the pet (including in the manner stated in the contract, including the application),
it is to be returned to us. Thank you for helping us help
them!
PetFinder has age categories of baby,
young, adult, and senior. ARC rarely handles "baby" animaals.
We use the term Baby for kittens and puppies up to 7 months of age. Young
describes pets from 8 months to 2-3 years. This is because they are
physically still growing and this is also the age at which they
typically reach their social maturity. We use Adult for pets 3 yrs to 8
years (as statistics are showing 8 is close to middle age). And we use
Senior for pets older than 8 yrs.
