Special Adoption Story!

Panda was one of BSRR's special fosters who came into our group as an older pup, was adopted, then returned two years later.  In that time she experienced something that changed her from a fun loving dog to a fearful and insecure one.  Thanks to the amazing dedication and efforts of our foster homes and a bit of patience waiting for the right home we were overjoyed to learn that a home had been found.  In March of 2011 Panda went to her new mom and the connection was as beautiful as it can get.  Her owner was nice enough to send us this picture of her and Panda.

Why We Rescue

Each one takes a piece of us; it is the price of knowing them it seems. 

As they slip into an endless sleep, they steal away our hopes and dreams.

Each time the decision has to be made to send one on their way,

We weep with bitter tears cursing the pain and sorrow as we pray.

 

Each time we ask “What’s the point?” every time one is lost.

 Questioning the goal of rescue, weighing the benefit and the cost.

Each time we say we will quit, and turn our backs on our canine friends.

But always we return, knowing that if not us, who will help them then?

 

For yet another one is needing us, a litter of puppies or one that’s been abused.

An old one needing it’s last few months of love, a scared one wanting a life anew.

There is never an end of the need you see, just the will and resources run so thin.

But it is the look of the needing eyes that keeps those in rescue staying in.

"PRAYER OF A STRAY"

Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care.
I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair.
My body is aching, it's so racked with pain
And Dear God, I pray as I run in the rain...

That someone will love me and give me a home,
A warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.
My last owner tied me all day in the yard.
Sometimes with no water, and God, that was hard.

So I chewed my leash, God and I ran away
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But, now, God, I'm tired and hungry and cold
And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones
While I run in the street just looking for bones.
I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can,
For I have become just a "Victim of Man".

I'm wormy, Dear God, and I'm ridden with fleas
And all that I want is an owner to please.
If you find one for me, God, I'll try to be good
And I won't chew their shoes but I'll do as I should.

I'll love them, protect them and try to obey
When they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay.
I don't think I'll make it too long on my own
'Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes, I cry,
'Cause I'm so afraid, God, that I'm gonna die.
I've got so much love and devotion to give
That I should be given a new chance to live.

So, Dear God, please, please answer my prayer
And send me somebody who will really care.
That's all I ask, God, of You up there.
