About the Mitchell County Animal Rescue

Mitchell County Animal Rescue is a non-profit volunteer organization devoted to the rescue and care of abandoned and otherwise unwanted animals. Our primary goal is the promotion of spaying and neutering pets, reducing the population of stray animals, and the education of future generations in humane treatment of animals.

History

Mitchell County Animal Rescue Inc. was formed in 1984 to deal with the problem of hundreds of stray and abandoned animals in a county with no animal shelter. As a non-profit volunteer organization, for nine years MCAR operated by placing pets with foster homes.

Mitchell County approved a referendum for the construction and operations of a permanent shelter. MCAR raised $81,000 towards the cost of the construction, and a local corporation donated the land. The Shelter was opened in 1994.

County Funds cover only a small portion of the expenses required to operate a humane shelter. We depend on your donations to provide care for the homeless pets.
