Volunteers are the lifelines for the Animal Adoption League. Through their efforts, we are able to educate the community and raise public awareness of our organization and the services we offer. There are many ways in which you can help! We are always in need of foster homes, people to help with fundraisers, extra hands to hold dogs at PETsMART, help with answering the League Hotline, computer proficient folks to help maintain our website and anyone with a few extra hours who wouldn't mind transporting animals to vet appointments.

Annual Events
The Animal Adoption League can always use a hand at these annual events:
NASCAR auction – By far, our largest and most profitable fundraiser, we really depend on this event. Typically held in north Charlotte or Concord in May, we auction off donated NASCAR-related memorabilia.
LoveLights – Usually held in December at Freedom Park in south Charlotte. For small donations, luminaries are placed around the lake in honor or memory of beloved pets.
Festival in the Park – This popular annual event is held at Freedom Park in south Charlotte. We use our booth to provide information about our organization and available animals (via photos). We also take this opportunity to educate the public about the importance of spaying/neutering.
This year, Festival in the Park is being held Sept. 19-Sept. 22.

Our group always needs good foster parents. We regularly receive “pleas for help” and unfortunately, we aren’t always able to help simply because there are never enough homes, even temporary homes. Our foster parents help by providing a safe, secure, loving, temporary home for an animal. Approved vet care and food are provided for the foster animal. Fostering an animal is one of the most demanding responsibilities within our group. It is also the most hands-on and probably the most rewarding. Foster animals are carefully placed into foster homes most ideally suited to their temperaments/needs.

See more about fostering on our Foster page.

Rabies Clinics
At least twice a year, Animal Adoption League “joint ventures” with Charlotte Animal Control and/or other rescue groups to provide low-cost rabies shots to dogs and cats. We have also sponsored discount spay/neuter programs in conjunction with these clinics. Our primary goal is to make it easy for the general population to vaccinate their pets and/or have their pet altered. We also use this opportunity to educate the public about the importance of spaying/neutering their pet. We can always use volunteers to help setting up for the clinics, registering participants, assisting veterinarians, directing people to various areas, etc.

Assist in transporting foster animals to vet appointments.

PETsMART Adoptions
Some of our foster pets are “shown off” at PETsMART in Pineville. The foster parent typically takes the foster animals in their care to PETsMART on Saturday mornings. Potential adopters are able to meet the available pets and fill out an application to adopt if interested. Please note that we do not offer same-day adoptions. Applicants are carefully screened to ensure that each pet is placed in an appropriate home. Even if a volunteer is not a foster parent, our foster parents can always use help at PETsMART.
