  • 2009 Rescue ReunionOpen or Close

Delaware Valley Bichon Rescue held its 11th annual rescue reunion and bichon picnic on Saturday, June 6. It was a huge success despite a heat index of 104 degrees!

104 dogs signed up to attend the picnic, along with approximately the same number of people. Due to the extreme heat, about 39 dogs did not show. That still left us with a respectable turn-out of 65 dogs and their human companions.

L'il Pals Pet Photographer, a mobile grooming operation, pulled up with their 31-foot mobile home & parked alongside our driveway. Picnic guests were encouraged to sign up for pet photographs. Everyone was quite pleased with their photos! They were priceless.

In addition, the picnic included a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese auction of assorted items, bichon games, and the ever-popular bichon costume contest. Arnie the therapy dog was the winner of this year's costume contest. He came as "King Arnie-kamon," complete with his own entourage" (Linda & Gary Rostron!).

All tolled, the picnic raised about $1,100.00 for rescue. While the event is not a fundraiser but more of a fun get-together, it's always nice when we can raise some money on behalf of rescue. DVBR SPENDS approximately $24,000.00 per year vetting, grooming and caring for dogs while they are in foster care, so every little bit helps!

Everyone had a terrific time, and when it got REALLY hot, no one hesitated to take a dip in the pool! We had two AND four-legged guests in the pool all day. While we certainly had MANY helpers on the day of the picnic, we would like to extend a formal thank you to the folks who "chaired events." Thanks to Tina for handling the 50/50, Carol, the pet photographer, Eileen & Joe who ran the bichon games, Sue Clegg who donated a portion of proceeds generated by the sales of jewelry, Sigrid for manning the t-shirt table and most especially, thanks to Nadinia & Marion who did a wonderful job coordinating the Chinese auction (as always!). If it were not for all of our volunteers, we could NOT make this day happen. Thanks to these folks, and everyone else who helped, either behind the scenes, or on the day of the picnic! A day like this could not happen without a small army of volunteers! MANY, MANY THANKS TO ALL. Finally, we would like to thank the Rostron family for their very generous donation, which made a big difference on a day when we had a lot of people cancel due to the extreme heat.

We look forward to another — hopefully COOLER but still dry — picnic next year!

  • 2007 Rescue ReunionOpen or Close

Delaware Valley Bichon Rescue's annual reunion and "bichon blitz" was a GREAT success. This was our biggest year, with over 100 PEOPLE and about the same number of BICHONS in attendance. Aside from being very HOT, the weather cooperated and it was a magnificent day! Special monogrammed bandanas were made for each four-legged guest. We forgot about the two-legged ones. They had to fend for themselves.

Our annual raffle raised nearly $800. Sales of bichon-related merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, tote bags & other items raised over $400. We had a 50/50 which raised $91 and a "spare change" collection which raised $146.

While fundraising is NOT the main thrust of the day we were thrilled that after all the donations were counted, the rescue had taken in about $2,000.00 thanks to all our generous guests! BUT, the best part of the day is the fun that is had by all in attendance. It's a day for visiting with old friends and making some new ones too. We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed the event itself! ENJOY!!!

Susan takes a short break from the activities.

Delaware Valley Bichon Rescue's annual reunion and "bichon blitz" was held Sunday, June 4th and was a GREAT success. Below is a sampling of photos from the event. A great time was had by all who participated. This year's event included a yankee swap, professional pet photographs thanks to one of our adopters, our usual raffle, a 50/50, food, fun, swimming and much more! The rescue raised much-needed funds & everyone got to have fun & visit with one another. Thankfully the weather cooperated after a rainy Saturday.

This is just a small sampling of photographs from the event. If you are interested in purchasing a "CD photo album" of the picnic, please send $5.00 to the rescue's mailing address (711 Chapel Road, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077) OR feel free to use Paypal (we would appreciate it if you would include $1.00 to cover the fees associated with this service when using Paypal). We will be happy to send you a CD including all the photos that were taken during this fun event! About 80 dogs and about 100 of their two-legged companions were in attendance.

Enjoy the photos! We certainly enjoyed the picnic!!!

Each year, Delaware Valley Bichon Rescue invites all of our rescue dogs (along with their new families) BACK for a day of food, fun, games and relaxation! This picnic is primarily for adoptive families, however some friends of bichon rescue are also invited. For more information about our annual picnic, feel free to contact us. We hope you enjoy the photos of the 2002 festivities!
