The adoption procedure at the Ewing Township Animal Shelter is fairly simple. Animals are held for seven days before they are available for adoption. This allows for owners to reclaim animals that may have been lost. Animals that are surrendered by their owners are available for immediate adoptions.

Applying for Adoption- Once you have found a pet that is suitable for your house and family, you need to come to the shelter to meet your prospective new family member. This meeting is designed to ensure the best placement of the animals. If you are interested in adopting a new dog and already have a dog, you need to bring your dog to the shelter to meet your new dog. This provides both dogs with an introduction to each other. If the meeting goes well, you can complete an adoption application right at the shelter. Our application is also available online for you to complete and then email or fax to the shelter.

After the Adoption- In some cases, your new pet can go home with you the same day you meet. Please be prepared with a leash/collar or crate to transport your new pet. If your new pet is not spayed/neutered before the adoption, then an appointment to spay/neuter your new pet must be made within 45 days of the adoption. All animals in the shelter are up to date on their shots and have been seen by our vet. However, it is highly recommended that you make an appointment with your vet shortly after the adoption to ensure the health of your new pet.

**Also, please send us updates and pictures once your new pet gets settled into your family. Remember, while the animals are with us at the shelter, they are part of our family.

How can I reclaim my pet?

If your pet has come into our shelter, you may reclaim your pet by providing proof that it is your pet. (Vet records, rabies vaccination, etc). Fees for reclaiming an animal are as follows:
$11 for the first day your pet is with us,
$7 per day for every day or part of a day after that
For example, if your pet is with us for three days, your reclaim fee is: $11 for day 1, $7 for day 2, $7 for day three totaling $25.
