An update on Bear

Well it's Labor Day 2009, and Bear's recovery is going great. It may be a holiday, but the dedicated B.A.S.S. crew is still walking, scooping, and feeding to see that Bear and all the other furries are getting their proper care and love during their stay at B.A.S.S. As usual, Bear was happy to see the dog volunteers this morning so that he can get out for a while and stretch his legs. He still needs to be kept calm and quiet, but he's always thrilled to get out of the kennel for a while.

Thanks to the generous donations we received on Bear's behalf, B.A.S.S. has been able to raise the funds for Bear's treatment!
Bear went through his first adulticide treatment at the Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital. He had the first dose administered on day one and then the second twenty-four hours later, during which Bear was a great patient. While these two doses are administered, Bear's heart was monitored to make sure he was strong enough to withstand the treatment. (1 in 50 dogs that have heartworm are not strong enough to make it through this treatment.)
Bear now has 6 to 8 weeks to live a calm, stress-free life at BASS during the next stage of his recovery. We're still hoping to find a quiet foster home for him during this recovery period.
BASS is trying to give heartworm-positive dogs that come to the shelter every chance for a happy life. We cannot do this alone. But with continued support through donations and fostering, we are committed to help as many dogs as we can to survive this terrible condition.
BASS is very grateful to all of those who reached out with donations to help Bear. With you're generous support we'll be able to treat and save Bear as well as another dog. We'll continue to bring you the stories and updates on these dogs.
