ATTENTION    BREED    RESCUE

Policy and Procedure concerning Breed Rescues and the CCSPCA

In order to be able to pull dogs from our shelter rescues must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Provide 501c3 designation notice
  2. Provide a copy of agency Adoption Application
  3. Provide a copy of agency Adoption Contract
  4. Provide a veterinary reference
  5. Provide names of President or Founder and local contact (if any)
  6. A physical address of the President or Foster in addition to the agency mailing address.
  7. If local to the Cumberland County or nearby area, allow a site inspection by the SPCA's Cruelty Investigators prior to pulling animals.
  8. If not local, the contact information for the SPCA, Humane Society or Animal Control that covers the area where the rescue is located.

Animals pulled from the shelter for rescue will normally have the following procedures completed before leaving:

  1. DA2PPvL vaccination
  2. Intranasal Bordetella
  3. Intestinal Parasite Check
  4. Heartworm test

These items are done at reduced cost to the rescue. The fee for pulling an animal from CCSPCA will consist of fees for vaccines, spay/neuter surgery and other medical testing done on the animal. While our main interest is to see the animal go to a rescue that can adequately care for them until adoption, we must also recoop the monies put into the animal. Normally this is done with adoption fees, and so we must also ask rescues to help in covering these costs (and rescue will also receive an adoption fee when adopting the animal into a new home). Rescues may request additional vaccines (rabies) or services (combo tests, microchips, etc) to be administered & we can accommodate those requests for reasonable fees.

The CCSPCA currently has a low cost spay/neuter clinic. We try to arrange for the animal being pulled to be spayed/neutered prior to leaving the facility. This is standard policy, excluding animals that may be sick, injured, or otherwise unable to withstand surgery prior to leaving the SPCA.

Please call and speak with the administrator (or email)if we have an animal of your breed in our facility and you are interested in taking the animal into your program. Not all animals are candidates for rescue just because they are a specific breed. If we have room in our facility, and the animal is adoptable in the eyes of the shelter management we will attempt to adopt the animal into a new home ourselves. Only in cases of behavior issue, medical issue, special circumstances or overcrowding at the shelter will an animal be sent into rescue.
