CNWH Adopts only to the following
states:
New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC. We always
get the question "WHY DO YOU ONLY ADOPT TO THOSE STATES? "
Here we will explain why. Say you live in New Mexico and want to adopt Fluffy who is being fostered in Maryland. Are you willing to come and visit Fluffy before you can be sure you'll adopt her? If you are, that's fine, but here's another thing to think about. If we adopt out a dog, we stand behind that dog for the rest of it's life. We know the dog, and we can take the dog in should something change in your life and you are no longer able to keep the dog. It's not something we ask, it's something our contract REQUIRES. If you get the dog shipped to you, or we arrange a transport to you, that would be fine. You'll be willing to pay to ship the dog, or you'd be willing to fly out to pick up the dog... you bet. That's great. Now it's three years later, and you're getting divorced, or moving, or whatever. You need to give the dog up. Are you HONESTLY going to be willing to pay the cost to ship the dog back to us? Or to fly with the dog back to our area to return the dog? Probably not. That's not an option we're willing to bet on. We want to keep the dogs we adopt out within driving distance of our foster network so that, God forbid, we need to get to you and the dog within a short amount of time, we can. Of course, we can't require those who adopt to stay in this area, but we do feel the need to keep the dogs in our area as far as adoptions. If the new owner then moves out of our area then that's something we have to accept. The other thing we need to consider is the comfort of the dog. The dog would be going from one place that it's familiar with, to a noisy airplane (or a long transport being handed off from person to person), to a home with people it's never seen and doesn't know. We don't feel that's very fair to the dog. Other rescues and shelter do not feel there is a problem shipping or transporting an animal cross-country. Find one of them, or contact your local shelter to see if they know where you can look to find a Chihuahua closer to home. You can also check out our "Other Rescues" link on the left of the page to view a list of Chihuahua Rescues by state, as well as national groups that may be an option for you. We believe this is the best option for our rescues, so please don't ask us to make exceptions...we won't. |
