Aggressive Dog Conviction Policy
Policy Statement
Carson City Animal Services (CCAS) recommendation to Carson City Municipal Court concerning aggressive dog citations.
Purpose
Due to aggressive stray dog incidents in our community CCAS policy is to issue a mandatory court citation to all dog owners whose dog has acted in an aggressive manner.
Implementing Procedures
CCAS will issue a mandatory court citation to all dog owners whose stray dog has acted in an aggressive manner: biting, charging, growling, barking, or chasing people or animals. CCAS will recommend that Carson City Municipal Court order the guilty dog owner to follow CCAS Vicious and Dangerous Notice (V&D). The minimum requirements of the V&D Notice is to have the dog altered, micro-chipped, provide CCAS with home owner or landlord insurance information, 30 day suspended jail sentence, and a $500.00 suspended bail sentence.
