DOUGLAS ANIMAL WELFARE GROUP (DAWG)
DAWG's Mission Statement: To better the lives of animals in Douglas County by improving the adoptability of animals at the Douglas County Animal Shelter and thereby increasing the adoption rate, educating the community about responsible pet ownership, and engaging in other projects and activities that will yield positive benefits to the animals, owners, and citizens.
Do you know this about DAWG?
DAWG is a small, non-profit group of dedicated volunteers and members who rely entirely on donations and membership dues.
DAWG spends money on the shelter animals. We pay for spay and neuter, medical emergencies and health problems. We also pay for training, special diets, canned food and grooming.
DAWG Active Volunteers visit with the shelter animals 365 days a year, including holidays. We walk, play ball, give affection, groom, train, and praise. We spend the time to learn about them, so we can tell potential adopters about them.
DAWG educates the community about responsible pet ownership. We have training demonstrations, speakers at events, printed material and low cost microchip clinics.
DAWG adopts out dogs and cats through special adoption events, our website, TV channel 26, including Lifestyles of Northern Nevada, and through newspaper advertising.
DAWG raises money from donations, membership dues, fund raising events and aluminum can collection at the shelter.
