*** INTRODUCING BRANDY***
Brandy when she arrived into our rescue Brandy after 10 days in our rescue hospice care Brandy snuggling with her new friends here at LFFR! Brandy in her pj's on 6-1-06

This little senior Chi/poodle mix was taken from the shelter and placed in our care at LFF. We were told by the shelter she was in good shape and placeable for adoption. Much to our surprise when we went to get her we found this tiny frail little girl so painfully thin it hurt us to even look at her. We were afraid to even hold her in fear that she would just crush in our arms. She was matted right down to her bones with big clumps of hair just hanging off her paws. We had to completely shave her down, we knew it had to be painful for her to have such matting pulling at her skin. It was obvious that our dear little Brandy would be a hospice rather than adoptable. She is going to see the vet for a full exam and we are hoping that being underweight will be her only medical problem, we will update you when we get all her blood work results. Brandy wears a sweater at all times and just putting it on is difficult because she whimpers as you try to put her feet in the holes of the sweater. Something so simple is painful to Brandy, her little body gets soooo cold that she shivers. She is constantly wrapped in blankets as she sleeps peacefully out of harms way. We have never had a dog in our rescue that is as emaciated as Brandy. We hope that with some veterinary care and lots of food and love that we will soon see a much chubbier little girl. With all that Brandy has been through she remains the sweetest, most loveable soul. Please keep Brandy in your prayers!

UPDATE 5/3/06: Today Brandy went to our vet. She has a mammary tumor on her belly that will need to be removed. No spay scar is visible on her so will also have to be spayed. Brandy also has a badly infected tooth that is cracked and will need to be removed. However surgery will not be able to be done on her until we fatten her up a bit, she needs to be stronger before we can put her under anesthesia. We are guessing she either has a thyroid problem or cushings disease but we are waiting to do the blood work closer to the day of her surgery. Her circulation is very poor which is why her legs and paws are always so cold. We will be taking her for massage therapy to help aid her recovery.

UPDATE 5/7/06: Brandy has barked for the first time, we were thrilled to know she was feeling strong enough to do so! She also came in the kitchen at dinner time asking for her food, this is a big accomplishment for our little girl!!

UPDATE 5/23/06: It is without fail that any adopters that come into LFFR always are excited to meet Brandy, nobody leaves here without first cradling little Brandy with sweltering eyes. She is quite the celebrity and has captured the hearts of many viewers of our site. Brandy actually tried playing with me tonight, she put her front paws down, her butt up in the air and her little stumpy tail was wagging. She is even giving kisses now. Her appetite has increased but it is still going to be a while before we can fatten up those frail little bones. It could also be a thyroid problem preventing her from gaining weight quickly. We do not want to draw any blood to test her for this because she cant afford to spare any at this point. We have her on herbal supplements and human grade food and for now this is all that can be done for her other than giving her time. I will be taking some new outdoor photos of Brandy this holiday weekend, she is extremely frightened of the camera and I don't want to stress her with the flash. We realize her fans await some new photos and we promise to post them over the weekend so do check the site to see our "New Brandy Photos". Brandy will thank you all for your prayers and donations by showing you a full recovery down the road!!!
Brandy out enjoying the sunshine "oooh! the sun feels good!"

UPDATE 6-15-06: Brandy has been eating very well & continues to gain strength. She has a long way to go to recover from her years of neglect & starvation, but we are so grateful for how our little Brandy has responded to the TLC she receives in our hospice care. She is an amazing little girl & she is an inspiration to us all!

*** INTRODUCING MR. SPECIAL***
The day we picked up Mr. Special from the shelter Mr. Special's terribly matted coat

Mr. Special sleeping like a Prince Mr. Special being held up by a sling so he is able to eat Mr. Special up & walking (more like a wobble) 10 days after arriving here at LFFR!

6/27 Today Mr. Special is having surgery, the vet will remove his eye and stitch it closed to avoid infection setting in, he will also be neutered and have a dental. Once he recovers he will be put up for adoption, WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!!!
Such a tiny little Peke our Mr. Special is!!! Again, we were told by the shelter he was in adoptable condition only to find that he had only one eye and blind in the other, could barely stand or walk and has a Grade 4 heart murmur. We were also told he was 10 years old but our vet says he is more like 15 years old. His ears and paws had enormous clumps of matting and had to be shaved. The first night that we fed him, I wondered how he ate in the past because Mr. Special cannot stand up long enough to eat; but we couldn't let that beat us so we devised a sling to hold him up while he eats. Now Mr. Special proudly waits for his food to be served. He is so happy to have his dignity to stand and eat once again. We have some important decisions to make with Mr. Special. His eye is sunken in the socket which makes it appear as missing but, it is there and it would be best to have it removed in fear of infection. However, there is great risk with him being 15 and having a Grade 4 heart murmur, he might not survive the surgery. This is a very difficult decision as many of you pet owners have probably faced yourself at one point in time with your pets. We are waiting for his blood test results before reaching a conclusion on what would be best for him. We would very much appreciate any donations to help us with his medical and hospice needs.

UPDATE 5/3/06: We received Mr. Special's blood test results and much to our surprise his values were quite good for his condition. Therefore we will be scheduling him for a neuter, dental and the removal of his left eye. We want to take advantage of his remarkable blood results and hopefully Mr. Special will get many more years to make up for the loving care he has been denied in the past.

UPDATE 5/7/06: It has been a miraculous week here at Little Forgotten Friends, Mr. Special is now walking continuously and only on occasion does he fall. He is still wobbling but the improvement he has shown in a weeks time is quite amazing. He as well as Brandy now both come into the kitchen for their dinner. Mr. Special who could barely stand a week ago now lifts his leg to go potty. Last week he would just lie there and tinkle, we thought he was incontinent but we see now that this isn't the case We are expecting an incredible recovery with both these babies, thank you all, we believe God is answering all our prayers!!
More nap time! Mr. Special is now Mr. Happy! What an improvement since leaving the shelter & coming into our rescue!

UPDATE 6-15-06: Mr. Special continues to show us every day that he is a fighter. He has made great improvements & keeps us in awe of his zest for life. He is a sweet old man who genuinely appreciates being given another chance at having a happy life, especially for his golden years.
