Peanut is a 3 yr. old male Corgi/Dachshund mix with SPECIAL NEEDS who does not need to be around other dogs (or a lot more) and can only walk with the cart. Back was broken over a year ago. Also, he will need continued therapy but is a real go getter. Incontinent at times but a very good natured dog. He is neutered, up-to-date on shots & heart worm medication. Instead, they allocated space in their stores for pet adoption agencies to utilize to help address pet overpopulation.

SPAR has established a building fund to secure an Adoption Center located in the proposed Dog Park adjacent to the Shawnee Animal shelter on Hwy 177. October 16th was National Feral Cat Day. While SPAR was unable to hold any activities this year, we do support the trap-neuter-return (TNR) approach for helping feral felines and we help where we can and we help several feral cat colonies with food that is donated from Buford White Lumber, Walmart, Atwoods, Kmart and Firelake Grocery. We need volunteers who understand cats and the care they need. Also we have very few cat foster parents or places like barns, etc. to take the cats to live. We do not have the funds for a shelter yet, but we hope someday to be able to and make Shawnee a no kill city. Millions of cats are destroyed at city shelters across the nation each year.
