| SHOVEL IN THE GROUND FOR GBAR SHELTER!!!
On Tuesday, January 8th, 2008, at our 10th Line site, GBAR put that long awaited shovel into the ground
as construction of Phase 1 of our much needed shelter began.
Phase 1 included the building shell, fully closed in with windows, doors, interior walls and mechanical rough ins, supplied with its own power.
Phase 1 was completed by Shertine Construction in May, 2008; and fundraising continued in high gear in order for Phase 2 to follow promptly. Another milestone in fundraising needs to be achieved to complete the shelter and get it operational as quickly as possible.
If you have not made your donation, or wish to make a further donation, please mail to: GBAR, P.O. Box 492, Collingwood, ON L9Y 4B2. All donations over $1000 will see the name of the donor on our Recognition Wall at the completed shelter.
Phase 2 includes interior completion including mechanical work, plus exterior site work like grading, paving, sewer and water connections.
Phase 3 will see the shelter fully equipped with kennels, cat condos and other specific equipment required to make the shelter operational and ready for its intended purpose of caring for our region's needy animals.
A major portion of the needed office furniture has been generously donated.
GBAR will still need the community's ongoing support to continue, with their generous donations of canned cat food, clumping litter, towels
and blankets and special dog beds for the kennels. Volunteers will be needed to assist with
animal care and a manager and assistant will be hired to run the shelter.
'THANK YOU' to all who have helped to date with this project.
The Future is Bright....and with your support could get brighter!
Thanks to the Town of Collingwood, the land was leased and the new Georgian Bay Animal Rescue Shelter is located at 549 Tenth Line North, off Mountain Road, beside the Public Works yard.
The specially designed floor plans will show animals at play when visitors first enter the shelter, with a cat playroom in the bright and inviting reception area.
Each dog will have a private kennel, with abundant glass for viewing and a door to a separate outdoor play area/run. Cats will be in spacious enclosures equipped with toys and cat trees, and will also have time in the Play Room which has lovely big windows so the cats can watch the comings and goings outside. The Play Room will be equipped with cat trees, perches, toys and plush beds for an afternoon nap! Prospective adoptive 'parents' will be able to take their time to choose the right new 'best friend' for their family in a pleasant, clean, peaceful environment.
The new Georgian Bay Animal Rescue shelter will also include
separately ventilated isolation and medical rooms for sick or injured animals, and an important
education room with full kitchen facilities, for public workshops, and especially for school children, about responsible pet ownership.
PUT YOUR NAME ON THE BUILDING! For a donation of $400,000, the generous donor will be able to name GBAR's new shelter! What a legacy to leave to the community's needy animals. Help build a better world through kindness to animals....help complete this so desperately needed shelter in the Georgian Triangle.
