Park Lines January 2002

January 2002
Vol. 5 No. 1
Published bi-monthly by Parks Operations Division of the City of Salem's Department of Community Services

Working For Waterfowl

Jan Petree and Lori fisher are working hard on behalf of the waterfowl in our community.  Lori and Jan got involved at Cascade Gateway Park when several geese and ducks were discovered with fish hook or fish line injuries.  They have worked closely with Ark Haven and Oregon Animal Care Center to rescue, rehabilitate and relocate many birds.

At Jan and Lori's suggestion the Parks Operations Division has recently placed signs saying "PLEASE DON'T LEAVE FISHING LINES BEHIND" in English and Spanish around the shoreline at Walter Wirth Lake.  Along with the Parks Operations Division they will be monitoring the signs and their effectiveness.

Jan Petree and Lori Fisher have been selected as Volunteers of the Month for November, you can check out their picture on the parks website at under Park Stars.

Thank you Jan and Lori for the hours you spend and your unceasing commitment to Cascade Gateway Park as stewards of the natural world.
