Bradford County Humane Society provides care an comfort to lost, unwanted, and abused pets at our shelter in Ulster and in foster homes. We make every effort to find safe new homes for these animals.
Procedures for turning in a dog or cat
Procedure for surrendering your dog:
- Call in advance. The shelter is limited in space and sometimes cannot immediately accept owner surrendered pets. If this is the case, staff will give you a time frame in which to call back to see if there is room.
- The charge for a surrendered dog is dependent on body weight and age.
Procedure for surrendering your cat:
- Call in advance. The shelter is limited in space and sometimes cannot immediately accept owned cats. If this is the case, staff will give you a time frame in which to call back to see if there is room.
- The charge for an owner surrendered cat is $10 for each adult and $5 for each kitten.
Procedure for delivering strays:
- The shelter staff will not come to your home to pick up strays.
- You may deliver a stray to the shelter during our business hours of 10:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday and 10:00 to 4:00 on Saturday.
- If you are holding a stray dog or sight one in your neighborhood, you can contact the State Dog Warden at 888-3654 or the local police who will pick it up and deliver it to the shelter. The State Dog Warden works for the PA Department of Agriculture, not for the shelter, and his/her hours are Monday -Friday, 8 am - 4 pm. If you live in an area covered by the PA State Police, be aware that they do not pick up stray dogs.
- Stray dogs delivered to the shelter are accepted fee free because the state reimburses the shelter for holding dogs.
- Stray cats will not be picked up for you by any agency. You may deliver them to the
shelter but we charge a nominal
fee of $5 each for stray cats and $1 each for kittens. We do not receive any state
reimbursement for the care of stray cats.
If you see an injured or sick stray animal whether cat or dog, contact the Humane Officer at 888-4763 for immediate assistance.
