Humane Society Dogs:

All of dogs are spay/neutered, vet checked, vaccinated according to age, tested for Lyme disease and heartworm and treated for all parasites. Our dogs are well socialized and exercised while in our care. They are walked three to four times a day and have play time in our one acre dog park. They enjoy our dog trails and socialization of other dogs.

Humane Agents:

The Humane Society of Westmoreland County is the only agency employing two Humane Society Police Officers in the county. They are hard at work fighting neglect and abuse.

(c) Cruelty to animals.–

(1) A person commits an offense if he wantonly or cruelly ill treats, overloads, beats, otherwise abuses any animal, or neglects any animal as to which he has a duty of care, whether belonging to himself or otherwise, or abandons any animal, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, drink, shelter or veterinary care, or access to clean and sanitary shelter which will protect the animal against inclement weather and preserve the animal’s body heat and keep it dry. This is the portion of the law applying to cruelty to animals. Stray, barking dog complaints and dogs at large are the responsibility of Animal Control. Checking for rabies and licensing is also the job of animal control. Your animal control agency is contracted through your municipality.
