Silver Rescue

Merry ChristmasDuring this holiday season, we at Silver Rescue would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support that made the difference for many animals this year...

On a cold, rainy day he came running down the road, bloody, wounds all over his body, his torn and slashed leash flying through the air behind him. He had been fought in an ally pitbull fight. When he lost the fight they shot him. The bullet lodged in his skull. He ran for his life and they shot him again. This bullet when through his leg. Your donations helped us heal him and make him whole again and today he’s ready for his new family that will give him love and keep him safe for the rest of his life. We named him Blue for his one blue eye.

Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you.

He was a hit and run victim or an abuse victim of a beating by the neighborhood children ~ we could never discern. Days turned into weeks while he crawled around from yard to yard, starving and in pain, looking for safety and the love of a kind human. His broken bones were fusing back together crooked. He had open slash wounds on his legs and his little toe dangled by the side. Two surgeries later to remove the little toe and to reset his broken legs, and six weeks of frustrating healing time, Babe is back to running and enjoying his puppyhood.

Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you.

Snowball just had to go! The old woman was tired of her and she had to be gone by 6pm that day or else. Soon afterward we discovered that Snowball had given birth not too long ago. The old woman had no idea. She hadn’t seen the kittens. She hadn't noticed that Snowball had a round big belly one day and the next she was thin as a rail. Hard to understand, really. Snowball was a good momma. Too good a momma. She had given birth to her babies in the old woman's shed. The babies were safe from the weather and predators – in the shed. But also from humans. They were so far removed from the old woman's hearing that they would have died had we not discovered them. As soon as we opened the door, we heard the babies scream. Four 4 week old babies, wobbly and weak. A week without momma’s milk they wouldn't have lasted much longer. Still they had plenty of noise in them to scream for our attention. Together, Snowball and the Veterinarian took good care of those babies and nursed them back to health. They all, the whole family, was adopted healthy and happy to one perfectly wonderful, extraordinary family.

Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you.

There is Buster, a product of backyard breeding. His mother, as is usual with people only out to make a buck, was never vetted. Not before she was pregnant, not during her pregnancy and not after she gave birth. Her body, overused by constant, never ending breeding, was too weak to guarantee her babies would be born healthy. Buster’s paw and wrist when he was finally rescued was a bloody mess. It took months to health him, but with our dog trainer's help, heal he did. He dances and plays and runs now with abandon. He loves life to the fullest and is ready for his forever home.

Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you.

Darrell ran into a trailer park in a particularly bad area of town. His skin looked bad. Staff infection. He was heartworm positive. How long had he been on his own? Long enough to just have skin draped over his bones. Today, thanks to you, he is a beautiful specimen of a dog and ready for his forever home where he will never be abandoned again.

Thank you! We couldn't have done it without you.

We could go on and on... This year has been difficult with the down turn in the economy. More dogs, in particular pitbull breed dogs, have been dumped and abused. Funding has been more difficult but you came through and helped us help these unfortunate babies. Lucky and Narly, Russell and Rusty, Lovey and Honey, Kane and Lady, Darrell and many more - Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you.

There are just a few days left in 2009. If you need to make any charitable contributions before the end of the year, please consider Silver Rescue, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. All donations go directly to Silver Rescue and are used to rescue cats and dogs, and to heal their abused bodies and minds, to foster them, and then to find them wonderful new families where they will never have to suffer again. Thank you!

Checks may be sent to Silver Rescue,
