Successful Adoptions / Stories / Adventures

Hi, we adopted Jack from you guys back in June. He is doing great. He is a
wonderful dog and we love him so much. We are still working on using the
lease but he does pretty good. Attached are some pictures, the one where his
is playing soccer with my son is a little blurry. Take care and thanks again
for helping us find Jack!

Just wanted to thank everyone who helped in Mr. Blue Jeans transport today!
He is the sweetest boy who willingly plants kisses on whoever is close enough
for him to reach! Feel so sorry for him trying to walk on a leash, he "bumps"
into everything, but takes it all in stride. Had a crate on hand, could have
allowed him to just relax in back of Tahoe, but he curled up on his blankets
with his toy and spent most of the trip quietly snoozing. Not a peep out of
him!
I discovered a "bump" on his tail about 2 inched up from the base. Not sure
what it is, but doesn't seem to give him any discomfort at all. He doesn't
mind you touching it. Wish I could have gotten pictures of him out of his
crate, but on a leash he goes according to where his "nose" leads him and his
sense of direction is as bad as mine! LOL! When his mouth is closed he still
has a part of his tongue that "sticks out." Checked his teeth, they're okay,
but he looks SO CUTE with the tip of his tongue sticking out. Not the best
pictures, but hope you'll enjoy them! One of my "favorites" below my "Chan"
have attached the others to this email.
Mr. Blue Jeans is going to make someone a wonderful companion; SO laid back
and eager to please. Thank you Anna for taking him! I know you will fall in
love with Blue Jeans. And thanks Lori for saving this boy!

Jackson
Hey Darcy,
Jackson is doing great. We just love him and he is so much fun
to play with and to watch him play with his new toys. He’s being really good
and not getting into anything he shouldn’t and seems to understand when I say
‘no’ when he starts to chew on the carpet or a shoe. My sister is doggie
sitting him today. We’ve borrowed her play yard for night time and put it in
the hallway with the kennel door open so he can sleep in or out of the kennel
but stay inside the play yard. He whines about 10 minutes then goes to
sleep. I bought some piddle pads and have one of those in there for night
time and just try to take him outside every hour during the day and evening
(when we are at home). He’s peed in the house a few times and pooped twice,
but we don’t have new carpet so we just clean it up as best as possible.
I’ll let you know more later.

Mac:
Hi Darcelle! Just wanted you to know how much fun we’re having! We named
the puppy Mac and attached are some pictures of him playing with my son.
Just wanted you to know things are going great!
Good to meet you!

These are the last two of the bait babies that were sent a few weeks ago.
Gunner's injuries were too severe to send him at that time, but he is now
well enough to travel. These two guys have been in a foster home for over two
weeks.
Romeo is just what his name suggests- a lover! He belonged to a Hispanic
person, but is catching on to English. He has a forever home waiting if the
introductions go well. Isn't he adorable?! Gets along great with everyone-
not been tested with cats yet.

Hi Darcy,
Hopefully these photos will come through OK. I'm sending them via a forward
of a message I sent to friends last night, so if they get stripped out or
something, let me know.
I just want you to see the difference in Roweena -- and it's been only 6
weeks!! The top one was one of the pics you sent to me a few days before I
adopted her; the bottom one was taken yesterday evening after our first
obedience class. I honestly hadn't noticed much of a difference until I made
this comparison last night, and I'm astonished! Does she look like a happy
doggie or what?!!
She is a wonderful dog -- good natured, doesn't make messes, and extremely
intelligent. She's stubborn as all get out too, but I think the classes will
help tremendously. She goofed around at first, but as soon as she realized
she needed to pay attention, she got down to business very quickly.
I hope you're doing well, and that her new pic brings you as huge of a smile
as it does to me!
Happy Thanksgiving,
Linda & Roweena

Hello - we finally made it home - long trip but well worth it - Maggie moo
has attached herself to our hearts very quickly - she is a love bug! I will
keep you updated! Here are some pictures of her homecoming! don't mind the
dates on the picture guess I need to fix it on my camera.
Thank you so much,
Chantel

Hi Lori,
This is Amanda Craven. I am the one who adopted Gracie last month. I've
been meaning to contact you regarding her heartworms. I just wanted to let
you know that when I took her to my vet to get her on a preventative, they
wanted to do another heartworm test since they had never treated her before.
They told me the reason for this was that it was common to have false
positives for heartworms. They did the test and it came back negative! I
was so relieved. They put her on a preventative and said that in two years
they would do another test and see what it looks like. They also assured me
that there has been plenty of times that the test has come back negative
after another vet's test had shown up positive, and said it has happened to
them too. I just thought you would like to know that.
I also wanted to let you know that we are still absolutely loving her.
She is by far one of the best dogs I have ever had. Her and our american
bulldog get along great, and the cat has even started turning around. You
seemed to have been very attached to her, and I thought if you would like, I
could bring her back up to PetSmart sometime when you were there if you would
like to see her. It's up to you. I just want you to know that she has a
good home and is being very well taken care of.
Thank you so much,
Amanda

Thought I'd let you know that Cocoa had his first puppy class at 5 with the
kids so they can learn, got his crate from my parents, has a new bed for when
he is out of the crate, has his first vet appt for Monday at 9 am, has 3 new
toys, a bone and a toy you put a treat into, we gave him his first bath (he
did great!!). he has obviously been well trained - do you think he might be
mixed with Pomerian? His hair kinda looks like it - since youhad several
poms thought you would know.
Well, don't want to bother you but we will send pictures soon..........the
kids won't dream of changing his name. I might look up cocoa in Spanish and
see if they will change it. But it looks like he is Cocoa to stay!
Thanks for loving him until we could adopt him!

Gizmo: (formerly Frankie): graduated last night from Petsmart's intermediate class. He had doggy
ice cream as a treat and thought it was the greatest. My friend should be
sending me a picture of him with his graduation hat on. His test included:
Stand and stay for 20 seconds with distance and distractions
Sit/stay and down/stay On your bed and on your bed with distractions and stay
Spin (he loves to spin - it's hard to keep all 4 feet on the ground - he
would rather jump and spin which makes everyone laugh and clap for him)
Touch a target ( I would have him touch the glass behind us where a little
girl was sitting outside watching - that made her giggle every time)
Heel walking with outside and inside corners Return to the heel position.
Put paws up on an object.Off.Go around an object both ways.
Wait. (I use this a lot to keep them from running out the door, jumping out
of the car before I'm ready, etc.)
Rollover.
Play dead - fall down and lie on his side when I say "Bang".
He is working on a trick called Who Stole the Cookie. He has to lie down and
let me put treats on his front paws and leave them there.
Shake with both paws.
He starts next week into a Basic Obedience class II at Houston Obedience
Training facility. He will already know some of it there, but will learn to
stand for inspection, back up (which we've already been working on) and get
more solid in heeling, etc.
Than in January he will start a Rally I class.
We've been going to the dog park and he loves it. Gizmo makes friends and
plays with every dog there. He's still not sure about going in the pond -
wants to, but just hasn't quite figured it out.
Chanyaka:

Oh my goodness, she is more than we could have imagined!!! She has got the
BEST temperament. We haven't had any problems, it's like we've had her
forever!
She has overtaken our love seat as her bed and has slept at the foot of our
bed from the get go. She is just a big baby!
We don't have to worry about her with our boys, we're having to "train" our
son to be gentle with her!!!

Goldie:
I am sure you are tired of hearing from me, but I just can't say enough how
much we love Goldie. She had a wonderful trip to Austin. She is a great
traveler. She just hopped in the crate and never made a sound. I was
concerned about Carly, the big dog of my sister's, but Goldie started playing
with her and never had a moment's trouble. Goldie climbed on the back of the
sofa and jumped off onto Carly, and Carly loved it. They rolled and tumbled
and played chase for hours. Usually Carly tires out other dogs, but Goldie
wore her down. They played together until Carly had to take a nap. Goldie was
still going strong. She is the friendliest dog I have ever met. She gets
along with everyone and every dog. Mother and I couldn't be more pleased.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Sue

Frost:
She is doing great! Seems like she has fit right in. I kept her on a leash
Friday night, but yesterday I let her in the yard with Harly. They ran and
played and came in when I called them. They play until they get so tired
they can't play any longer. Last night she slept with us in the bed. As
soon as she woke up I let her out. I'm not quite sure of her house training,
so I want to be careful and not let her get any bad habits. So far she has
only slipped up once and that was the first night.
