Adopting a Dog...

Adopting an animal is always a big decision that comes with both rewards and responsibilities. Before you adopt a dog, make sure that it's going to fit your lifestyle and that you have the capability to give your pet the love and attention it needs. It's important to remember that dogs typically live 12-15 years, depending on the breed, size, and how well you take care of them. Your friend will be with you for a long time, and so you want to make sure that you choose a companion that's best for you.

Many people opt to keep their dogs in their yards. If you plan on doing this, please remember that during the winter months, a furry coat often isn't enough for your dog -- especially if he or she is short to medium haired. A good rule of thumb is to go outside yourself and, if you're freezing, chances are your dog is too. Please keep in mind that you'll need to let your dog inside when it becomes too cold, even if he or she is normally kept outside during the warmer months.

If you need any help training your dog...

You can find helpful videos on how to do it at PetVideo.com. They cover a variety of topics, from training your dog to walk politely on a leash, to house-training, and even puppy mouthing. They even have videos on how to teach your dog to do tricks! For a list of the videos: click here.
