Map to our adoption event

When you come to our event, fall in love, and want to adopt, the following will occur:

  • You will need to fill out the appropriate application and contract.

    Dog Application Dog Contract
    Cat Application Cat Contract

  • We will verify your vet reference.

  • We will schedule a home check before final approval of the adoption which will be accomplished during the following week, assuming no weather related issues or emergencies arise, so that the adoption can be finalized the following weekend.

  • Please note that we do not hold pets. Unless it is determined that you are approved, pet selection will need to wait until you are an approved adoptive home.

    Our adoption reimbursement fees are:

  • $275.00 for altered dogs

  • $250.00 for puppies plus $135.00 toward the spay/neuter which will be set up at the time of the adoption

  • $150.00 for altered cats

  • $100.00 for kittens plus $70.00 toward the spay/neuter which will be set up at the time of adoption

  • Older & special needs pets have reduced adoption reimbursement fees, depending on each individual case.

Janet's Rescues and Placements will oversee all spay/neuters of all puppies/kittens and make monthly trips to a Richmond veterinarian for the purpose of having this accomplished. If adopting a puppy or kitten, an appointment will be given at the time of the adoption for a month or two (2) in the future at which time puppies will be spay/neutered, microchipped and given rabies shots (as they are required at 16 weeks which is about the age we require the puppies to be spayed/neutered). Kittens will get spay/neutered, rabies and microchips upon request at an additional charge.

Unless special provisions are required, no exceptions are made to this policy. Besides being a contractual requirement to spay/neuter, it is also a Virginia State law that all animals adopted from a releasing agency are required to be altered within 30 days if sexually mature or within 30 days of when they reach 6 months of age. This requirement is pursuant to subsection B of 3.1-796.126:1 of Virginia State Code.

All our animals are up-to-date on their vaccinations. They are screened for any major health problems that are detectable by conventional veterinary examination. The animals in our care are spayed or neutered, wormed, brought current on shots, treated for any detected illnesses, and have appropriate blood screening tests (FeLV/FIV test for cats; heartworm test for dogs over 6 months old). Dogs are immediately placed on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
