This year, along with our fifth anniversary, South County Cats will celebrate the milestone of having assisted with more than 4200 spay/neuter surgeries since 2006!
South County Cats' CAToberfest, 'A Celebration of Cats', is an annual community event and fundraiser. The event includes education, entertainment and refreshments in addition to a silent auction, raffle and market place. It is family-oriented and admission is free!
CAToberfest 2011 will be held Saturday, October 1, 1:00 to 4:00, at the Maple Valley Community Center - 22010 SE 248th Street, Maple Valley, WA 98038. It’s an open house, so you can drop by for a little while, but you’ll wish you were there for the whole event!
- Drawing Contest - The entry deadline has been extended to 9-30-11. Entries will be displayed at the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite in each age group. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the end of the event. See details and contest rules below for additional information.
- Guest Speakers - An exciting line-up of speakers is planned to convey useful and practical information:
- 1:30 - Pet Livestock Preparedness - Marie Schimke, WASART
- 2:15 - Your Animals Are Talking. Are You Listening? - Polly Klein, Tonglen Healing Arts for Animals
- 2:45 - How to Recover a Lost Pet - Kat Albrecht, Missing Pet Partnership
- 3:15 - Keeping Indoor Cats Happy - Cori Gross DVM, Feline Behavior Housecalls
- 3:30 - Five Years of Saving Lives Through Spay and Neuter - Sally Halela, South County Cats
- Kids' Activities - Each child will receive a ticket upon entry to redeem for their 'adoption' of a plush kitty! Then they'll want to go to the kids' area for fun activities. Something new every year!
- Market Place - Unique and hand-crafted items, many with a cat-related theme, will be for sale.
- Raffle - This year's raffle offers the opportunity to win a beautiful, custom oil painting of your pet(s) by local artist, Dawn Canfield! Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
- Silent Auction - There will be a fun variety of items on which to bid! And this year we WILL be able to accept credit and debit cards. Auction items will include gift certificates, gift cards, baked goods, unique baskets and assorted items. Something for everyone!
Admission to the event is free. A donation of canned cat food or non-clumping litter is welcome. If you have any questions about the event or would like to donate items for the silent auction or market place, please email southcountycats@comcast.net.
