Recent studies
have linked animal abuse and child abuse together. The studies that
have been conducted show that 8 out 10 animal abusers, abuse their families as well, and 9
out of 10 ends up in trouble with the law in adulthood. Together we can stop this, please
report animal abuse.
Pet Overpopulation
DID YOU KNOW... At the current breeding rate in the US,
each person would have to own 5 dogs and 16 cats in order to house all of the pet
populous? This means that the average household of 4 would have to own 20 dogs and 64
cats..
Is the problem of pet overpopulation
serious?
Yes, very serious In the United States more then 70,000 puppies and
kittens are born each day because of the uncontrolled
breeding of pets. Some 15 million cats and dogs will be destroyed because no home can be
found for them. Add the offsprings of stray and abandoned animals to that number, and the
total becomes even more staggering. When these figures are compared to the 10,000 humans
born daily in the United States, it becomes obvious that there can never be enough homes
for so many animals. In fact, for every contented animal in this country, another four
pets live out their lives hungry, cold, and at the mercy of humans. It all starts with one
unspayed female cat or dog. The first year, a female dog produces 4 puppies; 2 are female.
In
the following 7 years, 7 generations of unspayed females will produce at least 4,372
puppies, all descended from ONE original female. Cats have even more offspring than
dogs. A female cat may come in season several times a year, and can even become pregnant
10 days after having a litter. Spaying or neutering your pet is a one time expense, and it
cost less than feeding a pet for a year. But you say, we choose to have our pet breed, and
we find good homes for the puppies or kittens...but by allowing your dog or cat to
reproduce, you are decreasing the demand for animals already born and already homeless!
each year because they are not wanted by anyone, anywhere. And keep in mind you may find
homes for the ones you have but do the people you give them to do the same? Millions of
dogs and cats will go homeless this year--each one capable of giving
as much love and joy as the fortunate animals which do find a home. PLEASE be responable
and have your pets neutered & spayed. Neutered pets often offer you what you got them
for--affection, companionship, and being the center of their world.
Preventing a litter is good for both
you and your pet. Here are a few facts.
* Spayed and neutered dogs and cats live longer, healther lives.
* Spayed and neutered pets are better, more affectionate companions.
* Spaying female dogs and cats eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and
greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed
before the first estrous cycle.
* Neutering male dogs reduces the incidence of prostate cancer and prostate disorders.
* Spayed and neuterd pets are less likely to bite. Unaltered animals often exhibit more
behavior and temperament problems than do those that have been spayed or neutered.
* Neutered males are less likely to roam the neighborhood, run away, or get into fights.
Here are some of the excuses, myths
and the facts about spaying and neutering.
* Myth: "My pet will get fat and lazy."
Fact: The truth is that most pets get fat and lazy because their
owners feed them too much and don't give them enough exercise.
* Myth: "It's better to have one litter first."
Fact: Medical evidence indicates just the opposite. In fact, the
evidence shows that females spayed before their first heat are typically healthier. Check
with your veterinarian about the appropriate time for these procedures.
* Myth: "I'll find good homes for all the puppies and kittens"
Fact: You may find homes for all, or at least most of your pet's
litter. What you may not think about is that, in less then one year's time each and every
one of your pet's litter may have produced it's own litter, adding more and more animals
to the population. The problem of pet overpopulation is made and perpetuated one litter at
a time.
This sad little kitten is an example of what happens to unwanted pets. Spaying and Neutering your pets will eliminate these sad faces. |
