Cupcake is a 4 year old Lab/Pointer Mix who came to Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA from a shelter in West Virginia through the Puppies Across America Program. Cupcake almost didn't make it through the standards for animals coming through from other shelters because she had what was thought, a minor heart murmur but after talking to her foster care giver and workers at the shelter in West Virginia, NEAS agreed that Cupcake should come to us and get the special care she may need.

Cupcake arrived at NEAS after a long 14 hour drive this past weekend. She received her health exam by our veterinarian who agreed that she did have a heart murmur but thought it may be more severe than we thought. Cupcake then went to have an ultrasound of her heart to determine the severity of her condition. The doctor gave us the news that Cupcake has a grade 6 out of 6 heart murmur, one of the worst he's seen. We, of course, needed to know what the next step would be to save Cupcake and to give her a long healthy life.

Cupcake is to now see a heart specialist for her first consultation and to set up her heart surgery.

NEAS has a special Emergency Medical Fund funded by our donors for just these cases. Unfortunately, our funds are at a minimum because of other animals needing the special care we offer. We need your help today to help Cupcake.

You can donate to MCAL or directly to NEAS and be sure to mention that the donation is for the care of Cupcake.
