Angel's Story

by Minnie Parsons,

This is a very hard story to tell, Cathy and I are Animal Control here in Tucker County. We work around the clock. We don't get paid for the hours we work--most of it we do due to our love of animals and out of the kindness of our hearts.

We get called day and night 7 days a week. We have a story to tell and it is true it really happened so bear with me while I try to tell the story.

Angel

Cathy and I were called on a neglect and abuse case. We arrived at the home and that's when we found Angel a mommy Pitt Bull who was living in an old junk car. When she got so big she could no longer jump in and out of the car she was forced to go into labor on the cold muddy ground.

The owner told us that the day before Angel had delivered two puppies, one of which did not make it and the owner had taken the surviving pup away from the mom. In the meantime believe this or not we learned that the owner had stuck her hand inside Angel and then waited 24 hrs later to call Cathy and me. When we loaded Angel we could tell she was very weak and very underweight. Her backbone was sticking up and except for her belly she was all skin and bones. When we loaded her we noticed a horrible smell (infection).

When we arrived at the vet's office we did muzzle Angel for the vet's safety and must add and stress that not one time did our sweet Angel try to bite she didn't even growl. Even though she was so weak and hurting all she wanted to do was snuggle with Cathy and me.

Our county has no funding for situations like this so Cathy and I had to pay for our sweet Angel's vet bills. The vet did some X-rays and examined Angel, that's when we found out that when the owner had stuck her hand inside Angel she ruptured Angel and the puppies had fallen and were all dead but the one. Angel had also developed a severe infection from the owner's hand.

Cathy holds Angel at the vet's office.

Our sweet Angel we were losing her. The vet stated that due to Angel's condition she would never survive surgery and we lost our sweet girl. This was very hard for Cathy and me even though we had just met our sweet Angel we had promised her a better life and that we would take care of her and she would never have to go back to living like that again.

We pulled ourselves together and went to the owners home and got her for abuse. We took the newborn puppy and to our surprise we found 3 more puppies, 6 months old, from a different litter of Angel's.

The junked car where Angel had been tied and gave birth to her pups.

These three puppies are on our Petfinder list and their names are Chance, Sandy and Reba. They were literally living in a pigpen, it was horrible, there was mud up past your ankles and there was mud from one end to the other.

We took these three pups and are looking for rescues or adopters for these kids. They are real dolls; they're at my home now and my son and daughter play with them. They are a little shy but real sweet kids. They love attention and love to be played with. They deserve a home where someone can show them that life doesn't have to be the way they have been forced to live. We're working on leash training since these poor kids were never fooled with and just left in that mud pit.

I apologize I had to stop for a minute and get myself together to finish this story, the heartbreak that we are going through is not easy and this is the hardest part of our job. We don't just pick up dogs and cats we get attached to each and every one of them. To us they're all very special and we love happy endings. But I'm sad to say this story didn't have that happy ending.

We took the newborn Pitt puppy to my home where I have a mommy cat with 4 newborn kittens. We put the little Pitt pup in with the mommy cat and she took him right in as her own. She washed him all up and completely accepted him. It's hard for me to say but we lost our sweet Pitty kitty this morning at 4:30 am. My sweet mommy cat is crying and looking all over for him. She really thought he was hers.

Momma Cat accepted the little "Pitty Kitty" (he's white in the middle) as one of her own.

We're reaching out to anyone who will listen to us. We need help here in Tucker County, we have a building donated to us by the City of Parsons and the County is putting in a septic system, but there are no funds left. We are in desperate need of help!

We need to get kennels for our shelter and cat cages, and we are reaching out to our County and citizens for help. Our County has never had a real shelter and never before this year have cats received any assistance. Cathy and I are working around the clock trying to do all we can, but we have come to a point where we need to ask for help from anyone who has a kind heart. There are a few citizens in our County who are helping us and they're doing all they can but we're asking for any other help we can get!!

If you can help with Angel's puppies, vet bills, or even help in anyway with our shelter we would be so grateful.

Thank you very much,
Minnie

We are hoping for a happy ending for Chance, Sandy, and Reba, three of Angel's puppies from a previous litter. See how great they're doing now that they're at the shelter!

Also Momma cat and her kittens are in need of homes too!
