In January 2007 the Preston County Animal Shelter donated 12 sets of pet rescue masks (Sm-Med-Lg) to area volunteer fire/rescue departments.

The masks were the idea of Richard Doug Willard, a PCAS volunteer, who saw them on a television program being used to save families' pets either in house fires or other life-threating situations where oxygen delivery made a difference.

Richard passed away in October of 2006, and in memory of him from his family and friends, and also from the family and friends of Melenda Light, who passed away in Sepetmber 2006, donations were used to purchase and distribute these masks in Preston County.

As of September 20007 the masks have been used and have saved one family's pet during a house fire in Kingwood.

We encourage all communities to see that pet rescue masks are placed on their own rescue squads' vehicles.  For more information on how to obtain these masks please visit the HELP Animals Inc. web site:   http://www.helpanimalsinc.org/
